Florida Lottery Celebrates Accomplishments Reached in 2020

Reaching Unprecedented Education Milestones, Celebrating Jackpot Winners, and More

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (December 24, 2020) – Today, the Florida Lottery is proud to highlight the significant accomplishments and milestones achieved in 2020, during Governor DeSantis’ second year in office.

“The Lottery is incredibly thankful to Governor DeSantis for the guidance and leadership it has received this year,” said Florida Lottery Secretary John F. Davis. “This year has been a year unlike any other, but one thing that has remained unchanged is the Lottery’s commitment to Florida’s students and schools. In 2020, the Lottery reached not one, but two major milestones in its mission to enhance education; surpassing $37 billion in total contributions to the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF) in May, and then exceeding $38 billion in total contributions just five months later in October. As we look ahead to 2021, we will continue to offer Floridians the best Lottery games available to support our mission of enhancing education and providing students across the state opportunities to become tomorrow’s leaders.”

This past year, the Florida Lottery (Lottery):

GLI 300x250

  • The Lottery established secured drop boxes for players to drop off their winning ticket(s) and claim information as an alternative option to submitting them via mail or coming into offices to claim.
Players who opted to use the Lottery’s new secured drop boxes have been pleased with the ease, security, and quick turnaround on prize payments.
  • In October, the Lottery’s MONOPOLY™ BONUS SPECTACULAR television commercial received a Gold Graphis Advertising Award.
Players excitedly look forward to “Monopoly Season”, but this year, with the COVID-19 pandemic limiting production capabilities, the Lottery had to think outside of the box and created a completely animated television commercial to promote the new Monopoly-themed games.
The international Graphis competition recognizes the most compelling design work of the year for Platinum, Gold, and Silver award considerations, which are then featured in hardcover annual book publications.

  • In October, the latest transfer to the EETF brought the Lottery’s life-to-date education contributions to more than $38 billion over the past 32 years.
  • Since the Lottery’s inception, Florida’s public schools have received more than $20.3 billion, while colleges and universities have received a combined total of more than $9.9 billion.
  • Additionally, more than $6.8 billion has been used to fund the Bright Futures Scholarship Program, which has enabled over 880,000 students to attend college since 1997.

  • In January, the Lottery launched the Player’s Guide, a new best-in-class website with detailed information on how to play and win the Lottery responsibly. The Player’s Guide serves as a one-stop-shop for the latest tips, resources, documents and how-to information for every Florida Lottery player – from beginners to experienced players. The new website is an extension of the Lottery’s current website and can be accessed directly at
  • The website drives players to two sections: “Play Responsibly” and “Win Responsibly.” Content within the Play Responsibly section includes video tips for safer gaming, a discretionary income budget calculator, a detailed explanation of odds, and a myth vs. fact quiz. The Win Responsibly section includes information on where to claim a prize, payment options, documents needed to claim and how to manage winnings.
  • In June, the Player’s Guide website was awarded a Gold Hermes Creative Award. The international competition honors those who bring ideas to life through traditional and digital platforms. Awards are given to companies and individuals whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry.
  • In October, the Player’s Guide website received a Batchy Award from the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL). The Batchy Awards honor the memory of Ralph Batch, the first President of NASPL, by recognizing Lottery advertising that achieves the level of excellence Batch upheld throughout his career

In June, the Lottery introduced a new, free mobile app available for iOS and Android users. Players have responded with praise and gratitude for the new app and are particularly appreciative of these exciting new features:

  • Check My Ticket: Allows players to scan a ticket’s barcode to determine if it is a winner;
  • Second Chance: Players can enter tickets into second chance promotions by scanning ticket barcodes;
  • Pick Numbers: Players can create and save their favorite numbers on digital playslips, then use them to purchase tickets at any Florida Lottery retailer;

  • Scratch-Offs: Gives players information about the newest Florida Lottery Scratch-Off games as soon as they are released; and
  • Responsible Gaming: Provides players more information about the Lottery’s responsible gaming initiatives and practices.

  • In January, the Lottery launched the X MULTIPLIER family of Scratch-Off games featuring the Xtra Chance Promotion, in which players could enter non-winning tickets into drawings for cash prizes. Ticket sales of the $1, $2, $5, and $10 games during the promotional period were 35% higher than the multiplier-themed game sales during the same launch and promotion period two years prior. Additionally, the promotion saw an 84.5% increase in player participation and a 94% increase in volume of tickets entered compared to the 2018 promotion.
  • The Lottery’s Triple Cash Collect ‘N Win Promotion, which took place in January and February, set a record for entries with more than 9 million tickets entered during the 33-day promotion period. The Triple Cash Collect ‘N Win Promotion generated a $1.5 million increase in sales over expected daily game sales during that period. Overall, the promotion helped generate more than $3.6 million to the EETF. This was the first promotion where all six daily Draw games – FANTASY 5®, PICK 2™, PICK 3™, PICK 4™, PICK 5™, and CASH4LIFE® – could be entered.

  • Scratch-Off ticket sales for the week ending March 1, 2020, exceeded $149.8 million, setting a new industry record for the highest single-week Scratch-Off sales of any Lottery in the country, and resulted in $28.2 million being generated for the benefit of Florida students and schools. Quick Draw feature offers players eight chances to win up to $50

NEW YORK (December 28, 2020) -- The New York Lottery today announced the debut of Money Dots, a new wagering opportunity with the popular Quick Draw game, giving players additional chances to win cash prizes of up to $50.

Players win when a Money Dot is drawn that matches one of the Money Dot numbers printed on their ticket for that game drawing.

Each $1 Money Dots wager, which may be purchased separately from a Quick Draw wager, contains eight random Money Dots numbers. Advanced wagering for Money Dots will be available for up to 20 consecutive draws.

La Française des Jeux Launches the “Objectif Maison” Scratch Ticket, Its New Annuity Game

BOULOGNE, France (January 5, 2021) - La Française des Jeux (FDJ) is launching the “Objectif Maison” scratch ticket, which makes it possible to win an unprecedented gain of 250,000 euros immediately or 3,000 euros per month for ten years [1] , for a stake of 3 euros.

This is FDJ's new annuity game after the success of the “12 extra months”, “Vacation for life” tickets or, more recently, “10 years winners”. The principle of a gain in the form of an annuity was introduced in 1999 on the famous “Tac O Tac” scratch ticket, which had existed for sixteen years.

This time, FDJ exploits for the first time the theme of the real estate project, a universe that is both concrete and a vector of dreams, which immerses the player in the “after gain” in a realistic way. The purchase of a primary or secondary residence is, in fact, one of the first projects of the big FDJ winners.

The ticket is available in four versions, each of which represents a house with unique architecture and design. They refer to different atmospheres: the countryside, the city, the beach and the mountain.

“Objectif Maison” offers a one in 3.61 chance of winning a prize, ie the best winning frequency among scratch cards at 3 euros.

This new game is available throughout the Group's network of points of sale but also on the site and on the FDJ mobile application.

The game's rules

If the player finds the winning symbol (s) associated with each playing area, he wins the associated sums. And if the player discovers three "key" symbols under all the playing areas, he wins 250,000 euros immediately or 3,000 euros per month for ten years.

A dedicated original film

An advertising spot accompanies the launch of this new ticket with humor, broadcast from January 4 to 17 on television and on social networks in twenty and fifteen second formats.

This film brings illiko's new communication territory, which relies on the codes of digital culture, in particular gifs and bright colors, to bring modernity to the brand.

"Our Resort Wallet solution ensures that our customers can experience the increased liquidity, player convenience, and enhanced safety that only cashless gaming can deliver," said Ryan Reddy, IGT Vice President, VLT, Systems and Payments Products. "This solution will heighten the player experience to new levels while positioning our customers as technology leaders. We're grateful to the Nevada Gaming Control Board for enabling this momentous debut in the State."

The approved Resort Wallet carded cashless module enables players to use a loyalty card to transfer cash into a secure digital wallet from either the casino cash desk or any Resort Wallet-enabled slot machine. Players can then insert their PIN-protected card into the slot machine, apply those funds to their game play, and cash out to their secure digital wallet at any time. They can also choose to move a portion of their funds from the slot machine to their digital wallet while printing a ticket at the slot machine for the balance.

The carded cashless module is one of three variations available as part of IGT's Resort Wallet solution, the industry's only fully integrated, turnkey cashless technology:

A variation of the Resort Wallet solution includes cardless cashless, where players tap their smartphone on a slot machine or table game to card in. They can then access their Cashless Wagering Account, load cash into the account from either the casino cashier, kiosk, or slot machine, then transfer funds between slot machines onsite, as well as between a casino's properties.

Cashless with external funding represents the full-service variation of the Resort Wallet solution. It combines Resort Wallet with IGTPay™, IGT's proven, proprietary external funding gateway. Players access their Cashless Wagering Account from a mobile app, with the flexibility to load their account securely and directly with funds from external sources such as credit and debit cards, bank accounts, and e-Wallets.

In addition to slot play, patrons can seamlessly access the funds in their Resort Wallet Cashless Wagering Account for table gaming, sports betting, and at retail points-of-sale.

All Resort Wallet modules encourage social distancing on the gaming floor by reducing line-ups at the casino cash desk and kiosks, and generate greater operational efficiencies by reducing cash handling costs and associated safety and security risks. Cashless play lessens machine maintenance by reducing cash handling, and results in fewer cash handling errors.

In addition, the IGT ADVANTAGE system enables responsible gaming information to be displayed through the Service Window and NexGen® display on the slot machine, as well as through notifications on the Resort Wallet-enabled cashless wagering mobile app.

Exceeding Player Expectations Leads to Record Digital Sales for Atlantic Lottery During COVID-19 Pandemic

MONCTON, N.B, Canada (January 4, 2021) – Atlantic Canadian lottery operator Atlantic Lottery has experienced record-breaking digital sales during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since the beginning of its fiscal year in April, digital sales on Atlantic Lottery’s platform increased more than 500 per cent over the same period in the prior year. Gross gaming revenue also saw a record-breaking 200 per cent year-over-year increase.

Atlantic Lottery, which serves the four Atlantic Canadian provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador, has a much smaller population than most Canadian and international lottery jurisdictions, but its per capita digital sales numbers are beyond impressive.

When compared to the United Kingdom’s Camelot Group, which has also reported record breaking numbers in 2020, Atlantic Lottery’s digital sales have been 69 per cent higher per capita.

“We’ve been growing steadily, year over year,” said Joey Cormier, head of channels for Atlantic Lottery. “Then things went off the charts during the pandemic, which was possible because of the investments we’ve made to improve the player experience.”

In response to player demand, Atlantic Lottery recently expanded its portfolio, launching more interactive digital games with increased play value and casino-style games. These new offerings combined with the recent investment in a modern internet platform and high jackpots on national lottery games to contribute to the increase in sales.

This digital growth was also expedited by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, when customer acquisitions for increased by more than 380 per cent over the previous year.

“In the first four months of the fiscal year we had nearly as many digital signups as we had in the entire previous year,” Cormier said. “At the beginning of the pandemic, we adjusted our advertising to remind customers, especially during the lockdown period, that playing at home was a safe alternative at the time.”

Although Atlantic Lottery wanted to ensure the safety of both players and retail partners by promoting digital play as an alternative, it did not want its retail partners to suffer during an already difficult time.

“Our retail partners are a priority for us, and we wanted to show our appreciation for them and provide an additional source of revenue during this challenging time,” said Chris Keevill, Atlantic Lottery President and CEO. “Strengthening the bond between digital and retail platforms is a focus area for us, so we came up with the Retailer Affiliate Program as a way to help achieve that goal.”

The Retailer Affiliate Program allows new players to identify the retailer that referred them to play online. The retailer will then receive a commission on all products purchased by that player on for six months.

Atlantic Lottery has other plans in development that aim to meet player expectations and further invest in innovation and digitization for the retail space, including new self-serve options providing additional touch points and revenues for retailers.

“We expected to see a strong level of growth, although we certainly didn’t expect to see this high of a percentage,” Cormier said. “We are always looking to improve the experience for our players in any way we can, and we continue to listen for their feedback in order to do so.”

A unique model

This anchoring in each person's life and their role in society form the basis of the Group's new communication campaign. FDJ illustrates its unifying and popular character, while recalling how it acts, on its own scale, in the service of the general interest.

“The National Lottery, our ancestor, was created in 1933 to help the“ Gueules Cassées ”, the disfigured soldiers of the First World War. This deeply united lottery laid the foundations of what we have never ceased to be: a company which, with its activity present in all regions, contributes to society. This new campaign aims to make our values resonate, and to reaffirm our role in the society of today and tomorrow, Underlines Nathalie Le Garlantezec, Brand & Institutional Communication Director of the FDJ group.

The campaign "And see France win"

The advertising campaign "And see France win", signed by Havas Paris and directed by Vladimir de Fontenay, consists of a long branded film of sixty seconds, but also four short films "proof" of twenty seconds. These highlight local commerce, the FDJ Corporate Foundation, sport and responsible gambling. Broadcast on television from January 3 to 28, 2021, these films are accompanied by a poster, press and radio campaign.

Condensed with scenes from life, these commercials string together small and large victories, from those that change a life to those that take on a whole country. It beats crescendo to the rhythm of a powerful slam, a true hymn to pride and generosity, at a time when trust and solidarity are more necessary than ever.

In addition to the poetry declaimed on a rhythmic musical background, this campaign relies on the effect of repetition and more precisely the anaphora “win” to indicate that its contribution goes well beyond its many winners in lottery games or games. sport bets.

Many people who have a special link with FDJ are also staged. This is the case of the workers who restore the site of the Château de Rochefort, in Asnières-en-Montagne in the Doubs, restored thanks to the contribution of FDJ with the Mission Patrimoine games offer; FDJ points of sale which constitute the leading local network in France; a young woman undergoing rehabilitation at Les Invalides hospital thanks to FDJ's historic support to the Union for Face and Head Injuries (UBFT); or beneficiaries of the Cap Saa association playing wheelchair basketball, the Ari association and the Apprentis d'Auteuil Foundation, supported by the FDJ Foundation for many years.

“We wanted to make a hymn of love to France and the French for 2020. Showing people in an authentic, natural, benevolent way, while always being energetic and optimistic. It is FDJ's DNA, this mixture of dreams and contributions, and we need it more than ever today,” recalls Christophe Coffre, co-president and creative director of Havas Paris.

A new graphic and sound universe

The FDJ group is also taking advantage of this new campaign to develop its graphic and sound universe as well as its logo. The latter is now part of a bevelled rectangle. A link between the present and the future, this evolution of the logo more faithfully reflects the new face of the Group. It retains its main strengths (colors, typography, trefoil and its diamond), and frees itself from the arrow without losing dynamism and optimism.
