Starlight Wishes to Brighten the Lives of Seriously Ill Children Thanks to $250,000 Donation

BRISBANE, Qld (November 26, 2020) -- Thirty-eight seriously ill children will receive a Starlight Wish this Christmas thanks to a $250,000 donation to the Starlight Children’s Foundation.

The donation, from The Lott by Golden Casket, has been funded from unclaimed prize money.

A Starlight Wish is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for a seriously ill child and their family. It gives them hope and an opportunity to forget about treatments and surgeries for a moment.

Each Starlight Wish is unique and specifically designed to suit the needs of the child. They can range from holidays to gifts and experiences.

Starlight Children’s Foundation State Partnerships Manager Tracey Tomlin said the Foundation would be able to help more sick children thanks to The Lott’s support.


“During this time of rapid change, there are no fewer sick kids. Starlight’s vision is for a future where everyone has a happy childhood, even when they experience serious illness or hospitalisation,” she explained.

“What happens in childhood lasts a lifetime and happiness matters, especially when it comes to improving health outcomes.

“Grounded in principles of positive psychology, Starlight’s Wishgranting program is vital for improving the wellbeing and resilience of sick kids in the community.

“This year The Lott’s generous contribution to this program will enable Starlight to deliver 38 life-changing Starlight Wishes, which provides something positive to look forward to after the pain and stress of treatment and hospitalisation.

“We are so thankful for The Lott’s support of more than 12 years which helps us bring joy to sick kids now and in the future.”

The Lott General Manager Andrew Shepherd said Starlight’s Wishgranting program gave hope to children living with serious illnesses and their families.

Hong Kong Jockey Club Appoints Mr Anthony Ingham to the Position of Executive Director, Membership, Strategic Marketing and Branding

HONG KONG (November 30, 2020) -- The Hong Kong Jockey Club announced today (30 November) that Mr Anthony Ingham will join the Club on 7 December 2020 as Executive Director, Membership, Strategic Marketing and Branding (Designate) (“EDMSMB(D)”), and assume the role of EDMSMB from 1 January 2021.

As EDMSMB, Mr Ingham will lead the development of the Club’s Membership strategy with the aim of enhancing and creating unique membership experiences for the Club’s 30,000 members. He will also lead the development and implementation of the Club’s strategic marketing plans through active co-ordination with key stakeholders. He will be responsible for articulating the Club’s brand and further strengthening the communication of the Club’s unique integrated business model and its significant contribution to the community.


As a member of the Board of Management, Mr Ingham will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer, Mr Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges.

Mr Ingham brings 20 years of in-depth experience in brand transformation, strategic marketing and customer experience development for globally renowned luxury and lifestyle hospitality brands. Prior to joining the Club he worked for Marriott International leading brand strategy, marketing and guest experience execution for some of its major hotel brands. He was appointed Global Head of the W Brand in 2015 being responsible for developing and executing a holistic brand transformation of W Hotels. In 2018 he took on additional global responsibility for The Luxury Collection Hotels and Resorts, a 115 strong portfolio of luxury hotels. Previously he spent ten years with InterContinental Hotels Group.

Mr Ingham holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Bath. He attended King George V School in Hong Kong and is looking forward to returning to the city after many years away.

The Club also announced today the retirement of Ms Scarlette Leung, Executive Director, Corporate Planning, Branding and Membership, who will leave on 1 January 2021 after two decades of significant contribution to the Club.

BCLC Interim President & CEO Greg Moore Resigns Effective January 2021

KAMLOOPS, BC (November 25, 2020) -- BCLC Board Chair Peter Kappel today announced the resignation of Interim President and CEO, Greg Moore, effective January 15, 2021.

Moore, who is leaving the organization to pursue a new opportunity in the private sector, assumed the temporary role in September 2019 when Jim Lightbody began medical leave to undergo cancer treatment and recovery.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to thank Greg for the incredible contribution he has made to help redefine BCLC’s approach to business and corporate culture,” said Kappel.

The Board will take the time necessary to appoint a new Interim President and CEO to work with BCLC’s Executive Team while Lightbody continues his medical leave.

BCLC conducts and manages lottery, casino, bingo and online gambling on behalf of the province for the benefit of British Columbians.

Last year, BCLC generated more than $1.3 billion to support provincial programs, communities, charitable and community organizations.

Veikkaus Closes Its Slot Machines and Gaming Arcades in the Regions in Spreading and Acceleration Stages

HELSINKI, Finland (November 27, 2020) -- Following the new guidelines issued by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health on 26 November 2020, Veikkaus closes its slot machines and gaming arcades in regions where the COVID-19 epidemic is either in the acceleration or the spreading stage.

According to the new guidelines by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, “the use of different measures, targeted regionally and locally, yet comprehensively and in such a way that the measures support each other, provide the regions with the best prerequisites for fighting the spreading of the epidemic as a whole.”

Veikkaus’ slot machines and gaming arcades will be closed in the regions in the acceleration and spreading stages on Saturday at the latest. The closure process was initiated right away on Thursday.

“We have followed the development of the coronavirus situation and acted according to the official guidelines. We made the decision on the closure today quickly after the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health published their guidelines,” says Jari Heino, SVP, Channels and Sales at Veikkaus.

The guidelines issued by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health on Thursday cover a fixed period, lasting until mid-December.

“No-one knows yet what the situation will look like in three weeks. We are sure that all efforts are made in society to suppress the second wave of this disease.

Veikkaus is prepared to act quickly if there are any changes in the regional coronavirus situation.

“We will be listening to the specialists, evaluating the situation based on their knowledge; and we will make our decisions accordingly,” Mr Heino says.

The gaming arcades and slot machines will be closed in the following regions:


South Ostrobothnia

Helsinki and Uusimaa





North Karelia

Northern Ostrobothnia




Southwest Finland

ACMA: Monitoring Online Gambling Advertising Restrictions During Live Sport

SYDNEY, NSW, Australia (November 27, 2020)

The ACMA has been monitoring how the new gambling advertising restrictions during live sport on TV, radio and online have been operating since they began in 2018.

In November 2019, the ACMA published a research report with findings from our first 12 months of monitoring gambling ads.


The research looked at the placement and number of gambling ads on TV, radio and online, before and after the new restrictions were introduced. It also looked at people’s awareness of the new rules and attitudes towards gambling advertising.

During these first 12 months, the ACMA did not identify any major issues with the operation of the broadcasting code restrictions.

However, because of some inconsistencies in providers notifying scheduled start times, and issues with record-keeping obligations, the ACMA decided to keep monitoring how the Online Content Service Provider Rules (the Online Rules) operated for another year.

In our second period of monitoring the Online Rules, the ACMA compared information about the ‘scheduled start of play’ on platforms with the placement of gambling ads during live streamed sports coverage.

The ACMA also contacted online providers to get extra information about their gambling advertising practices. During the period, the ACMA conducted 3 investigations under the Online Rules.


The ACMA did not identify any major concerns about the operation of the Online Rules. However, there were some inconsistencies in how providers interpreted the rules. These included:


Use of exemptions

  • The Broadcasting Service Act 1992 (BSA) allows for an identical online simulcast of a live sporting event to be exempt from the Online Rules (this is because the live sporting event would be subject to broadcasting codes of practice). The ACMA found this exemption is being widely used, and sometimes combined with an exemption for low audience share subscription television channels from the broadcasting codes of practice restrictions.

  • As the size of online audiences for live sporting events continues to grow in Australia, it may be relevant to also consider the potential online audience share for live sporting events broadcast on TV, so that exemptions continue to apply as intended, where there are genuinely small audiences.


Record-keeping requirements

  • The ACMA found that online providers are making and keeping records of gambling ads shown during live sporting events, as required by the Online Rules. However, the types of records kept by individual providers vary.
  • To avoid potential record-keeping breaches, the ACMA encourage providers to consider whether their records comply with the Online Rules, particularly for unique, digitally-inserted advertising.


Although our formal monitoring program has now ended, the environment for broadcasting and streaming live sporting events is evolving. We’ll keep watching developments in this sector and how these interact with gambling advertising restrictions.
