Lotto NZ Celebrates Twenty-One Millionaires in Twenty-One Weeks

NEW ZEALAND (May 26, 2020) -- For twenty-one Lotto NZ players, 2020 is shaping up to be their luckiest year ever.

So far this year, there have been 16 overnight millionaires with Lotto and Strike and five multi-millionaires with Powerball.

“That’s one millionaire for every week in 2020! We’re so thrilled for our winners,” said Marie Winfield, Head of Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility at Lotto NZ.

“Everyone dreams of winning big – and for 21 Kiwis so far this year – that dream has become a reality.

All of our winners are normal Kiwis going through an extraordinary time in their lives, and we are here to provide them with tips and advice to navigate through what can be a very surreal time for them."

“While we haven’t been able pop the champagne with our winners in our exclusive Winners’ Room over the last few months, we’ve still provided lots of support virtually, and of course, sent the champagne in the post so they can celebrate in their bubbles,” said Marie.

This year also brought the biggest Powerball jackpot in Lotto NZ history – the $50 million Must Be Won draw on 29 February. Landing on leap day, it was certainly one to remember for two North Island mothers who split the jackpot, each taking home a massive $25.1 million.

This year has certainly been a lucky one for winners so far.

“We’re looking forward to speaking to – and hopefully meeting and celebrating with many more winners throughout 2020, it’s a privilege to share such a special time with them, and we can’t wait to hear and share their unique stories,” said Marie.

Louisiana Upgrading Its Flagship State Lottery Game in August

Multidraw option will be temporarily suspended May 27

BATON ROUGE, LA (May 20, 2020) -- This summer the Louisiana Lottery will upgrade its flagship game Lotto to offer starting jackpots of $500,000 beginning with the drawing on Aug. 5, 2020.

These changes that double the starting jackpot mark only the fourth time Lotto has changed in the game’s 28-year history.

There will be more to love about Lotto this summer with more frequent $1 million-plus jackpots that our loyal Lotto players enjoy,” Lottery President Rose Hudson said. “Our players have spoken, and we listened with a Louisiana game that is still just a dollar.”

To create larger starting jackpots, the redesigned game will require players to select six numbers out of 42, bumping up the overall odds of winning to 1 in 34.4 The previous matrix was six of 40 with overall odds of 1 in 30.

The match-5 and match-4 prizes will continue to be pari-mutuel, meaning the actual prize won will be determined by dividing each respective tier’s prize pool by the total number of winners for that drawing.

The match-5 prize would average $1,000 and the match-4 prize average stays the same at $50.

Because the matrix will change, the Lottery will temporarily suspend the multidraw option for Lotto to prevent future draw purchases that eclipse the new version’s sale date of August 2.

On August 2, multidraw will return to full functionality under the new game matrix.

The multidraw option allows players to purchase tickets for a select number of future drawings.

The Lotto multidraw option will be stepped down as follows:

Multidraw Option Last Day to Purchase (by 9:30 p.m.)
20-Draw Ticket Wednesday, May 27, 2020
10-Draw Ticket Wednesday, July 1, 2020
5-Draw Ticket Saturday, July 18, 2020
4-Draw Ticket Wednesday, July 22, 2020
3-Draw Ticket Saturday, July 25, 2020
2-Draw Ticket Wednesday, July 29, 2020

More information will be available on the Lottery’s website on Aug. 2 when sales for the upgraded Lotto game start. The Lottery reminds ticket purchasers to play responsibly, encouraging anyone who has a gambling problem, or friends and family of anyone with a gambling problem, to call toll-free 1-877-770-7867 for help.  Ticket purchasers must be at least 21 years of age.

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (May 21, 2020) -- Today, the Dutch Online Gambling Trade Organisation ‘Speel Verantwoord’ officially endorsed the first European responsible gambling advertising code. The pan-European code, which has been developed and drafted by the European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA), establishes dedicated rules for responsible content of all gambling advertising, through all media channels, and includes dedicated measures for social media and minor protection. The code is open for signature by online gambling companies licensed in the EU/EEA and UK, other gambling associations and representation bodies of the media sector.

“Although various European gambling policies still vary a great deal at the moment, the future of online gambling regulation lies in European cooperation and harmonisation in this respect is inevitable. This code is one of the first important steps in that direction.

Schafer Systems Inc.

It is not surprising that European organisations are joining forces especially in the field of advertising. Advertising plays a vital role in channelling consumers towards the regulated, safe and responsible gambling offer - but it should be responsible. That’s why we’re pleased to support this safer gambling initiative which will promote responsible advertising and help protect Dutch consumers and minors in particular”, says Peter-Paul de Goeij, managing director of Speel Verantwoord.

Speel Verantwoord and EGBA are fully committed to promoting safe and responsible gambling and specifically responsible advertising which ensures minors or vulnerable groups are not exposed to advertising, advertising does not lead to problem gambling, and contributes to a safe, healthy and well-regulated online gambling environment in the Netherlands.

This pan-European online advertising code is in addition to the applicable advertising laws and regulations in the Netherlands and it stands apart from the Dutch advertising code for online gambling, as it is currently being prepared. EGBA’s code can inform and reinforce this Dutch online code. Compliance with the EGBA code will be monitored by an independent third party. Speel Verantwoord calls on its affiliated gambling providers and all other gambling operators to also embrace and sign up to EGBA’s advertising code.

ALEA # LINKS # L2. Shared Ideas About New Paradigms of Online Consumption

CÓRDOBA, Argentina (May 22, 2020) -- Nearly 100 people followed live the second meeting of the ALEA # LINKS cycle, on Thursday, May 21, through the ALEA channel on YouTube, which allowed to know the experiences of different Argentine lotteries in the adoption and implementation of technology for the commercialization of games of chance, for your inspection and control processes. To watch the video, click here.

Héctor Rojas Decut (President of IPLyC SE de Misiones, Guazubet), Silvio Vivas (President of IAFAS, Entre Ríos), Guillermo Marti (General Manager, TecnoAcción) and Lucas Baffetti (Manager of San Luis Lottery, Slots Group, Jugadón) participated.

After analyzing the current context, some of the conclusions were:

Online gambling, as a form of marketing the official game, whether through platforms or prepaid cards, includes the network of agencies whose role is essential. The agencies constitute the physical and official sales network. Training human resources and including them in the new dynamics and controls is a priority in that sense as well.

Geolocation: the online game allows, through the identification and validation of the user, to know the location of the origin of the bet, thus respecting the principle of territoriality.

Electronic collection: the need to incorporate electronic forms of collection was expressed, under various forms, electronic wallets, comprehensive collection systems of each jurisdiction, etc.

Protection of the bettor: through filters or parameters, the platforms allow to send warnings about the residence time, the amount of money invested, identify if the player is a minor or if they are Self-excluded (tool of the pathological gambling prevention programs ).

Parameters and alerts to prevent money laundering: assigning measures, tools and alerts, the Platforms make it possible to comply with regulations on the prevention of money laundering.

Challenge of capturing the demand for online gambling: historically the regulation was behind the market, to include the existing demand for online gambling in a legal manner, it is necessary to establish, in addition to the legal framework and its operations, work on the sales network and on communication between all sectors involved. Also, on the regulation of online gambling advertising.

Change of habits: The obligatory isolation, the suspension of raffles and the commercialization of the official game accelerated a process in which they had been working. And they generated the conditions so that, also, the public can request and, in some cases, test this electronic game modality from official platforms. It was emphasized that physical and online game players are different.

In our country, according to the ALEA Game Map, the sector generates 250,000 jobs directly and indirectly.

Continuing the path of regulation under clear policies, Argentina consolidated a state system of regulation of games of chance. On this system, the gaming offer is now expanded to a new channel that is online gaming.

The role of ALEA, as an articulator, allowing the interaction of the representatives of the 24 jurisdictions and of the main supplier companies, in the history and present of searching for solutions to face this challenge, was valued and highlighted. Always, in accordance with the principles established by the National Constitution and the legal frameworks in force in each jurisdiction.

Amendments to the Broadcasting Act Provide New Tool to Stop the Marketing of Illegal Gambling

NORWAY (May 22, 2020) -- The Storting (The supreme legislature of Norway) has adopted amendments to the Broadcasting Act which will make it easier to stop marketing on TV and in ordering services of gambling games that do not have a license in Norway.

The amendments to the law will give the Norwegian Media Authority the authority to order web owners and distributors to prevent access to advertising for illegal gambling. The Lottery Authority shall cooperate with the Media Authority in its work.

Recruits through advertising

Today there is a massive amount of such advertising on Norwegian TV screens, even if it is not allowed. Now the authorities are given a more powerful tool in the work to stop the illegal advertising.

These illegal gambling companies use television advertising to make themselves visible and recruit new customers. Then they tend to customers with direct and more aggressive communication via e-mail and SMS. This is how they help normalize the most aggressive forms of gaming over the web. And it also helps to maintain and legitimize an illegal offer.

6 out of 10 Norwegians do not know or are unsure of who is allowed to offer gambling in Norway. The new population survey presented this week shows that 55,000 Norwegians have problems with gambling and that 122,000 are at risk of getting it.

Several remedies await

The survey also shows that in order to prevent gambling problems, changes in the broadcasting law will be important. Other important tools are the prohibition on transferring money to and from illegal gaming companies. A DNS alert that notifies players that they are about to play with an illegal gaming company is also on the steps.

Szerencsejáték Zrt Assists Its Small Business Partner Network with a Commission Increase Linked to Developments

HUNGRY (May 25, 2020) – Szerencsejáték Zrt helps its sales partners, who are in a difficult situation due to the coronavirus epidemic, with a network protection and development action plan including a bonus commission, who are asked to keep their jobs and raise the standard of services for the support, the company's CEO said to MTI.

Dr. Gábor Czepek said that the action plan provides a total of more than HUF 5 billion in additional commissions to key small and medium-sized business partners, who, in addition to retaining their 5,000 employees, can also make up for lost revenue due to the epidemic.

He underlined that the decline in customer traffic caused by the coronavirus epidemic and the decrease in sports betting supply due to backward sporting events had significant negative economic effects on the national lottery company's network of sales partners and small and medium-sized companies.

According to his information, already in the first days of the epidemic there was a decline in the sports betting market due to the pause of football events, and the personal turnover of lotteries decreased at the same time as the curfew, so their average sales fell by around 30 percent by mid-May.

He stressed that prioritizing digital sales channels could alleviate revenue loss, with many players reluctant to switch to online and sms-based services. There was little decline in lottery games as players switched to digital betting modes. More than half of sports bets come online instead of the previous 30 percent, but in the case of lottery tickets available only in person, the decline is around 40-50 percent, he listed.

Classified Advertisement

Dr. Gábor Czepek emphasized that during the epidemic, the basic task is to protect their commercial network, which represents value, but at the same time, despite the economic downturn, they do not give up their ideas of modernization and dynamisation. Therefore, taking into account the government's economic protection measures, the company has developed a network protection and development action plan for 2020-2021, to which it is expected to join between 25 May and 5 June.

The action plan became available to key partners in the SME sector selling the full range of products from Monday. The affected entrepreneurs operate a total of 2,404 points of sale and account for 65 percent of Szerencsejáték Zrt.'s sales revenue and employ about 5,000 employees, the company's manager explained.

He emphasized that Szerencsejáték Zrt. Will provide their SME partners with decreasing extra bonus commissions in three time bands by the end of the year within the framework of the action plan, thus higher commissions in the initial period will help the accelerated pace of economic recovery.

The connoisseurs undertake not to lay off any employees, and to continue selling at a higher level with detailed development elements: for example, by enabling their customers to pay by card everywhere, wireless internet access appears at all points of sale, and develop the uniform image elements of Szerencsejáték Zrt. .

Dr. Gábor Czepek underlined, they want their sales network to be able to operate at full capacity and open, and fewer partners to use the state supply system, and their economic stabilization does not require the involvement of additional resources.
