FY
2018-2019 - 1st Quarter: Loto-Québec Reports Higher
Revenues
MONTREAL, Quebec, Canada (September
7, 2018) -- Loto-Québec presents positive results at the beginning of
the 2018-2019 fiscal year. Consolidated revenues amounted to $ 686.5 million,
up $ 41.6 million (+ 6.4%) compared to the same period last year. Net income
amounted to $ 359.8 million, an increase of $ 34.7 million (+ 10.7%).

QUOTE
"Loto-Québec's positive
results at the beginning of the year are thanks to the efforts of all sectors.
I would like to thank the teams for their excellent work, "said Lynne
Roiter, President and CEO of Loto-Québec.
HIGHLIGHTS
Advertisement |
 |
- Lotteries: revenue up 22.5% and net income up
28.7%:
The lottery sector shows the largest increase. The Lotto Max has
offered record jackpots, and it's once again in Quebec that the $ 60 million
jackpot was won. The $ 100 ULTIME lottery was again a great success and made
many millionaires. Instant lotteries are growing in sales thanks to original
concepts that appeal to customers.
- Casinos: stable revenues and net
income:
The casinos have made many happy with the theme Leave in BMW ,
which has created a lively atmosphere, conducive to entertainment, and has
allowed lucky to win various prizes. If the quarter did not count one day
less, the products would have increased by $ 2.9 million (+ 1.4%). It should
also be noted that a larger batch of prizes at the Casino de Montréal
had a negative impact on the products.
- Gambling establishments: 1.4% drop in revenue
and stable net income:
In the gaming sector, revenues are down in bars
and breweries due to the withdrawal of devices in the areas targeted by the VLT
Network Action Plan. The gaming halls, however, had a good performance.
- Revenues from the lotoquebec.com site , for all
types of games, grew by 34.9%.
Note: Due to new accounting
methods, the prizes awarded are now deducted from the lottery, bingo and Kinzo
products, as was the case for casinos and video lotteries ( see page 6 of the
quarterly report for more details).
As a result, 2017-2018 figures have
been adjusted. Gross profit and net income are not impacted.
The
quarterly report is available on the Loto-Québec
website.

Massachusetts State Lottery Returns $997 Million in Net Profit
for the Commonwealth
Record-setting revenues
result in second-highest net profit in Lotterys 47-year
history
BRAINTREE, Massachusetts (September
12, 2018) -- Treasurer Deborah Goldberg announced today that the Massachusetts
State Lottery returned $997 million in net profit for the Commonwealth during
the 2018 fiscal year which began July 1, 2017 and ended June 30, 2018.
This is the second-highest total in the Lotterys 47-year history.
The Lottery produced its record net profit of $1.039 billion in the 2017 fiscal
year.
Lottery revenues rang in at a record
high of $5.291 billion, surpassing the previous record of $5.233 billion in FY
2016 by $58 million and topping last fiscal years total of $5.097 billion
by $194 million. It is the fourth consecutive year that revenues have
eclipsed the $5 billion mark.
The Lotterys
performance is critically important to every city and town in the
Commonwealth, said Treasurer Goldberg, Chair of the Massachusetts
State Lottery Commission. I am proud of the work the Lottery team and
our dedicated retail partners have done to deliver over $2 billion in essential
funding for unrestricted local aid over the last two years.
The Lotterys network of
retailers earned a record $303 million in commissions and bonuses in FY 2018,
surpassing the $300 million mark for the first time ever. With
approximately 7,500 retailers, that amounts to an average of $40,000 in income
for each of the Lotterys retail partners.
With 73.5 percent of all revenue
returned to players in the form of winnings in FY 2018, the Lottery set another
record by paying out $3.891 billion in prizes. Prize payouts can
fluctuate from year to year based on the schedule or rate at which players cash
in their prizes.
With record or near-record
figures across the board, Lottery players, our retail agents, and the 351
cities and towns in the Commonwealth all benefited from the Lotterys
fiscal 2018 success, said Michael Sweeney, Executive Director of the
Massachusetts State Lottery.
The net profit and prize payout
totals both include a $1 million a year for life prize (20-year minimum) that
was awarded in FY 2018 in the Billion Dollar Blockbuster instant ticket game
that ended in March of 2018.
The Lotterys administrative
costs remained approximately 1.9 percent of overall revenues, the lowest of any
U.S. lottery.
The Lottery announced an estimated
net profit figure of $986 million-plus in July, noting that the final statement
of operations would be completed by mid-September. A combination of
interest earnings, multi-state game prize settlements and other revenues,
including season ticket subscriptions and license renewals, accounted for the
increase to $997 million.

Multimedia Campaign Launch
Consumer Research
Confirmed Scratch-Off As Preferred Moniker
LAWRENCEVILLE, New Jersey (September
7, 2018) -- Launched this week, Northstar New Jersey and PureRED, announce the
rebranding of New Jersey Lotterys Instant Games to Scratch-Offs via an
advertising creative platform dubbed Scratch-Offs Division
with a clever and humorous mix of characters that are charged with giving
away wheelbarrows and forklifts full of money.

The teaser digital billboards ran in
August with the headline Helping Jersey Get Lucky 24/7.
We created a fictitious
location called the Scratch-Offs Division with a quirky team who
has crazy ideas for how to give money away through the Lucky 7s New
Jersey Lottery Scratch-Offs, said Mark Borcherding, Creative Director
of PureRED.
The Scratch-Offs Division
was created as an ongoing umbrella campaign for all Scratch-Offs advertising
moving forward. The Division is a fictional New Jersey Lottery team who are
extremely dedicated and want to continue to develop new and fun opportunities
to win lots of prizes, Borcherding continued.
Through quantitative consumer
research, PureRED and Northstar found that the majority of consumers polled
referred to instant games as scratch-offs, thereby leading to the decision to
rebrand the entire category of New Jersey lottery tickets.
Scratch-Offs is far-and-away the terminology our players use
to talk about these tickets, said Vince Smart, Senior Director of
Marketing, Northstar New Jersey.

30th Birthday and Lottery's Significant Support for K-12 Public
Schools
RICHMOND, Va. (September 6, 2018) --
The Virginia Lottery has introduced a new campaign to recognize exceptional
individuals who got their start in Virginia public schools. Launched on
September 4, Made in Virginia is calling for individuals to nominate
public-school educated Virginians who have found success in their career,
overcome adversity or demonstrated a passion for service to their community.
The four selected graduates will get the opportunity to award $9,000 in prizes
to the Virginia K-12 public school which played an instrumental role in their
future success. The four winners will be featured in a statewide commercial set
to air in early 2019.
The launch of Made in Virginia
coincides with the Lottery's 30th birthday this month. The first Lottery ticket
was sold on September 20, 1988, and since 1999, a combined $9 billion in
Virginia Lottery profits have benefited K-12 public schools.
"We can't think of a better way
to say 'thank you' to Virginians for 30 years of good fun for such a great
cause our K-12 schools," said Virginia Lottery Executive Director
Kevin Hall. "We are excited to commemorate our 30th birthday by celebrating
those remarkable graduates and the K-12 schools which played instrumental roles
in their ultimate success."
The $9,000 in prizes, which will be
awarded to the Virginia public school of the winner's choice, includes $5,000
from the Virginia Lottery and $4,000 in school supplies from The Supply Room
Companies. The four schools that are honored may use those winnings to address
their unique needs.
"Education has the power to
positively influence individuals' paths and the future of communities big and
small it influenced me, and it's why I chose to be a public school
teacher," said Virginia Secretary of Education Atif Qarni. "Ask around
and I guarantee you'll hear of success stories that began from a lesson in
school, an inspirational teacher or life-changing academic experience."
Nominations will be accepted at
MadeinVirginia.com through October 12, 2018. Four winners will be selected
one each from the northern, southern, eastern and western parts of
Virginia and announced later this year. To qualify, winners must have
attended a Virginia public school and graduated between 1999 and 2018.

in Virginia nomination process and eligibility requirements, visit

Gambling Commission Publishes Latest Combined Health
Survey
BIRMINGHAM, U.K. (September 6, 2018)
-- The Gambling Commission has today published the latest combined Health
Survey, which outlines participation, at-risk gambling and problem gambling
rates across Great Britain. The data, drawn from field research carried out in
2016, shows that the rate of problem gambling across Britain was 0.7%
Advertisement |
 |
Tim Miller, Executive Director at
the Gambling Commission said: The Health Survey, along with all of our
evidence and data, indicates that the problem gambling rate in Great Britain is
stable. However, we want to see a sustained and significant reduction in the
levels of problem gambling and will continue to drive the industry to build
momentum towards this goal.
Understanding the level of
problem gambling is an important part of making gambling safer, but what this
data wont show is the extent of the harm someone may be experiencing, or
the wider impact upon their families and their communities.
Tim adds: That is why,
together with our expert advisers the Responsible Gambling Strategy Board, we
recently published a ground-breaking approach to understanding the full range
of harms gambling can have on society.
This work, alongside the recently
published research programme marks an important step in informing the direction
of the next National Responsible Gambling Strategy, which will launch in April
2019. Comments on how the social cost of gambling-related harms can be measured
and better understood, along with feedback on the research programme are
welcomed by email: research@gamblingcommission.gov.uk.

Global
Lottery Monitoring System President Presents GLMS Intelligence System to Law
Enforcement Authorities
LYON, France (September 11, 2018) --
GLMS President, Ludovico Calvi, attended today (Tuesday, 11 September) the
INTERPOL Integrity taskforce in Lyon, France.
Ludovico presented to an audience of
more than 100 individuals, mainly coming from national law enforcement
agencies, the new GLMS monitoring system, powered by TXODDS.
The distinctive character of the
overall GLMS alliance is based on a glocal approach supported by a
global network present in 4 continents and backed by local information and
intelligence provided by the 31 GLMS Members across the globe. Ludovico also
highlighted how GLMS alerts can support law enforcement investigation efforts
and provide concrete valuable evidence to prevent and detect any sport
competition manipulations at global level.
The matter of illegal betting was
also on the Agenda, in which INTERPOL presented its operation SOGA VII against
illegal gambling conducted throughout Asia during the 2018 FIFA World Cup. GLMS
Member, HKJC, and UNODC also contributed to the discussions with key facts and
figures.
GLMS President stated I
would like to warmly thank INTERPOL for organising this important conference,
which gave us the chance to interact with numerous law enforcement agencies,
share good practices and lessons learned. GLMS thanks to its enhanced
analytical tools and real time global messaging system can play a significant
role in supporting law enforcement authorities even if the massive fight
against illegal betting is still a major worldwide threat, which often
jeopardises not only the integrity of sports, but also vital state
revenues.
