California Lottery Joins Problem Gambling Awareness Month Effort

SACRAMENTO, California (March 3, 2015) -- Every year the California Lottery joins other state and national organizations to recognize the month of March as National Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM). The goal is to educate and raise public awareness that problem gambling is an addiction with similarities to the causes and consequences of alcohol and drug dependence. It also affects people from all segments of society.

This year’s theme, “Don’t Ignore the Signs” urges the public to recognize that problem gambling is a “hidden disease,” as compulsive gamblers do not exhibit visible signs in the way individuals with other addictions do. Signs that an individual may have a gambling disorder often include depression, lying, guilt, shame and financial devastation.

While most Californians enjoy recreational gambling responsibly, an estimated one million adults of all ages, races and ethnicities from all communities in California meet the criteria for problem or disordered gambling. Popular forms of gambling include casino gambling, online wagering, the lottery, horse racing and sports wagering, among others.

Schafer Systems Inc.

During the PGAM campaign, the California Lottery and its partners also stress the importance of finding free treatment assistance for gambling disorders by calling California’s 1-800-GAMBLER helpline. The helpline is staffed 24 hours, seven days a week and 365 days a year — offering callers a brief intervention and crisis stabilization to get them to the next step, which is treatment. The California Lottery partially funds 1-800-GAMBLER helpline via an Interagency Agreement with the California Department of Public Health.

Problem gambling is a treatable disease, and treatment is effective in minimizing harm to individuals, families and society as a whole. In 2010, the Office of Problem Gambling and UCLA Gambling Studies Program developed California Gambling Education and Treatment Services (CalGETS), which has now provided treatment to more than 7,000 individuals suffering negative impacts on their lives due to a gambling disorder.

Since its inception, the Lottery has remained committed to being a responsible corporate citizen that strives to ensure the highest standards of responsible gaming. In fact, the California Lottery is the only lottery in the United States to hold a Level Four Certification from the World Lottery Association. Over the last few years, the Lottery has made several improvements to its RG program, some of which includes:

  • Training 97% of its workforce on how to identify problem gambling behavior;
  • Launching the first U.S. lottery industry Corporate Social Responsibility website;
  • Improving treatment referral; and
  • New collaborations with the California Office of Problem Gambling (OPG) and the California Council on Problem Gambling.

For more information on National Problem Gambling Month visit OPG’s website To learn more about the California Lottery’s Responsible Gaming Program visit

The California Lottery is a $5 billion enterprise based in Sacramento. It is one of the few state agencies that is a revenue generator, not accepting taxpayer dollars. Its mission is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities. In FY 2013-14, the Lottery created 89 new millionaires. Ninety-five cents of every dollar spent by our players goes back to local communities in the form of contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and Lottery retailer compensation. The California Lottery urges its customers to play responsibly and within their budgets. If you feel you have a gambling problem, or know someone who does, you can get help at 1-800-GAMBLER.

Playtech Unveil Rainbow Riches Bingo

Sky’s the limit for first variant of UK’s most popular slot game

LONDON, U.K. (February 27, 2015) -- Playtech, the world’s leading multi-channel gaming software and services supplier, today launched Rainbow Riches™ Bingo – the first ever bingo variant of the iconic cross-channel brand, licensed and developed in partnership with Scientific Games.

The UK’s most popular retail slot game, which enjoys huge success in the land-based bingo market, is available today as a mobile and online bingo variant and launches with a £100,000 promotion in the run up to St Patrick’s Day on March 17th.

Playtech’s experienced bingo team spent several months perfecting the product, developing a number of innovative features, and paying particular attention to ensuring the brand’s unique elements and characters remain aligned with the original casino game.

Playtech’s development of the game was mobile-led, first across handset and bespoke tablet platforms, followed by desktop client delivery.

Rainbow Riches™ Bingo includes two new, industry-first, network-based jackpots ensuring a maximum amount of daily winners. Split between gold, silver and bronze prize bands along the games’ ‘Rainbow Road’, the first jackpot is triggered once the correct amount of shamrocks has been drawn.

The second jackpot is triggered on an individual basis via the wishing well bonus. Players select a lucky number and every time their number is drawn, they collect a gold coin. Once a player fills his or her well a bonus is awarded.

Gary Keaney, Head of Bingo, Playtech, said: “I'm incredibly proud to bring such an established brand to the Playtech Bingo network. Rainbow Riches has an extremely loyal community and we have worked very hard to build and deliver further social elements to the new game that will both engage existing players, and also attract a new audience."

With such an innovative and mobile-focused product, we have kicked off 2015 with a bang and I’m extremely confident we will continue to build on this throughout the year.”

Adjarabet Live on Microgaming Poker Using Babelfish Technology

ISLE OF MAN (March 3, 2015) -- Adjarabet has completed a full migration of its poker offering to the Microgaming platform; they are the first operator to use the revolutionary Babelfish API.

The project, a joint effort with Georgian development house Singular (, involved Adjarabet building their own custom poker software. Using Microgaming’s Babelfish API, this software is ‘plugged in’ to Microgaming’s servers, giving Adjarabet a completely tailored, unique poker client with none of the hassle or cost of server-side development and hosting.

Adjarabet ( was founded in 1998 and has firmly established itself as the Georgian market leader in poker, casino, sports betting and skill games. The company made waves in 2013, when it was revealed that the Georgia-regulated operator was one of the world’s biggest standalone poker sites. In 2014, following a promotion giving away over 500,000 Georgian Lari, it was the third-largest poker room in the world.

La Fleurs Global Lottery Forum

Adjarabet has generated a lot of interest in the last couple of years and naturally I am thrilled that they have chosen Microgaming and our Babelfish technology to take their poker platform to the next level,” comments Alex Scott, Head of Poker at Microgaming. “It has been a pleasure working with Singular and Adjarabet to do something that has never been done before in poker, and I’m very excited to see how we can grow poker together over the coming years.”

Adjarabet’s custom-designed software is available in both download and instant-play versions, with mobile coming soon. Adjarabet’s players will continue to play at tables in Georgian Lari, but because their software is running on the MPN systems, they can add network liquidity to their offering at any time with the flip of a switch.

We were looking for a partner to help us grow and improve our poker offering; when Microgaming presented Babelfish we knew it was exactly what we needed,” comments Alastair Ives, Head of Poker at Adjarabet. “The Babelfish API allows us to offer a product that is completely tailored to our customer base, eliminating the pain of migrating to a new software provider. We are very happy with how the process has been handled and with the results of the migration so far.”

With Adjarabet live, Microgaming can also reveal that the MPN Poker Tour’s planned stop in Tbilisi, Georgia, will be run in conjunction with Adjarabet. Held at the Tbilisi Sports Palace from the 28th to 31st May 2015, the event will offer players a substantial guaranteed prize pool for a minimal $550 buy-in. Players can qualify for the event online for as little as €0.25 and a list of poker rooms can be found at

The launch of Adjarabet comes at an exciting time for Microgaming poker, with several other new operator signings to be announced in the coming months, and major changes to the poker software also on the way.
