North American Lotteries Poised for Innovative New Year

GENEVA, Ohio (October 6, 2014) – Citing new games and innovations planned for the year ahead, attendees were upbeat last week at the lottery industry’s annual conference and trade show in Atlantic City, N.J., produced by the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL).

For Gary Grief, Executive Director of the Texas Lottery Commission, the conference completed his year-long term as NASPL President in 2013-2014. In his closing comments, Grief praised the industry for reaching an unprecedented level of collaboration and for its support in making NASPL the “go to” organization for lottery research and education. “Lotteries and vendors alike have never been more aligned in our pursuit of cooperative initiatives,” he explained. “I couldn’t be more excited about our industry’s success in generating revenues for great state causes and the potential going forward.”

To further the path that Grief and previous NASPL presidents have charted for the industry, members elected a new slate of officers for the 2014-2015 year. Chosen as President was Terry Rich, Chief Executive Officer of the Iowa Lottery Authority, who pledged to emphasize innovation and “the need to tell our story through marketing and communications initiatives.”

Other officers who will join Rich and Grief on the NASPL Executive Board of Directors for the coming year are:

  • 1st Vice President – Paula Harper Bethea, Executive Director of the South Carolina Education Lottery
  • 2nd Vice President – May Scheve Reardon, Executive Director of the Missouri Lottery.
  • Treasurer – Rose Hudson, President of the Louisiana Lottery Corp
  • Secretary – Charlie McIntyre, Executive Director of the New Hampshire Lottery
  • Region I Director – Carole Hedinger, Executive Director of the New Jersey Lottery
  • Region II Director – Alice Garland, Executive Director of the North Carolina Education Lottery
  • Region III Director – Randy Miller, Director of the North Dakota Lottery
  • Region IV Director – David Barden, Chief Executive Officer of the New Mexico Lottery
  • Incoming President, Interprovincial Lottery Corp. – David Loeb, President of the Western Canada Lottery Corp.

Lottery products continue to serve as an affordable, local entertainment option, and the games we offer generate more than $20 billion annually in net revenues in the United States alone to the good causes we help support,” said Rich. “To keep moving forward, we’ll continue to investigate new ideas and possibilities for lottery products, understanding that our success ultimately rewards players, retailers and the public through good causes. ‘New and improved’ will be our mantra as we freshen our games and develop new products.”

Rich cited MONOPOLY Millionaires’ Club™, launching in 23 states on October 19, as an example of the innovations to come. “It’s the first multi-jurisdictional lottery draw game which is associated with a well-known national icon brand,” explained Rich. He also emphasized the importance of building on the integrity that is the hallmark of the lottery industry, and communicating expectations for players, lotteries, retailers and the elected officials who oversee lotteries in each jurisdiction.

The North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries was founded in 1971. Evolving from an informal exchange of information among three pioneering lottery directors, the organization has grown into an active association representing 52 lottery organizations. NASPL’s basic mission is to assemble and disseminate information on the lottery industry through education and communications, and where appropriate publicly advocate the positions of the Association on matters of general policy.

MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES' CLUB™ Lottery Game Goes on Sale October 19 in 23 States

New Multi-State Lottery To Make "More & More Millionaires"

Companion One-Hour TV Game Show to Debut February 2015

LOS ANGELES, California (October 1, 2014) -- In less than 30 days, a group of lottery officials will do something that hasn't been done in more than 12 years - create a new multi-state lottery game. The new lottery game, called MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES' CLUB, will pool prize money to make "more and more millionaires." The news comes as the lottery industry's largest annual gathering at the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL) conference commences.

"Lotteries across the country came together and listened to what players wanted," said Rebecca Paul Hargrove, President of the Tennessee Lottery. "With three chances to win $1 million, a $5 popular price point, and the ability to unlock more and more millionaires, MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES' CLUB is expected to spread the wealth across the country like no other game in lottery history."

The new multi-state premium lottery game and weekly one hour prime time television show was created by Scientific Games Corporation (NASDAQ: SGMS), a leading developer of technology-based products and services and associated content for worldwide gaming and lottery markets. The new lottery game goes on sale in 23* participating states on Sunday, October 19 where lottery tickets are sold, with more lotteries** planning to join in the following months. The population of lottery jurisdictions selling the game at launch will be approximately 175 million. By the first week of March 2015, that population is expected to be close to 250 million.

With three different ways to win a million dollars, MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES' CLUB is the first game to combine the high-stakes and rich rewards of multi-state lottery gaming with the fun and entertainment of a national television game show. The television series will feature players selected from an audience comprised mainly of ticket holders drawn from those who registered their lottery tickets online or via a smartphone app, and will be hosted by actor and comedian Billy Gardell ("Mike & Molly," "You, Me & Dupree").

The uniquely designed MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES' CLUB draw game is expected to generate more simultaneous millionaires than any other game in lottery history. The prize pool will begin with a $15 million Top Prize and ten $1 million Club Prizes. If the Top Prize is not won in a given week, it will continue to increase in value for the next three weeks until it reaches $25 million. For as long as no one wins the Top Prize, all additional prize money will be allocated to fund additional $1 million Club Prizes until someone wins the Top Prize. Winning the Top Prize will unleash the $1 million Club Prizes. With the draw taking place on Friday evenings at 11:15 pm (ET), literally hundreds of players across the country could wake up Saturday morning as millionaires.

This new approach to a national lottery draw game was created by Scientific Games under license from Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAS) and is based on the iconic MONOPOLY™  brand, which is one of the most well recognized brands in the world.

"MONOPOLY is one of the most successful brands in gaming with lottery, slots and sweepstakes. With MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES' CLUB, more millionaires will be made than ever before," said Steve Saferin, President of Properties Group and Chief Creative Officer for Scientific Games. "Our player research consistently indicates that participants would prefer to see the millions of dollars in lottery prizing distributed to lots of winners, rather than one or two players winning hundreds of millions of dollars each."

MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES' CLUB is the first multi-state draw game at the $5 price point in the United States, though $5 is the most popular price point for instant scratch ticket games. This $5 price point strengthens the game's play value while differentiating it within lottery draw game portfolios.

Lottery players can register their tickets online to build MONOPOLY-themed Property Sets that, when complete, earn an entry into a drawing for the chance to appear on the nationally televised game show "MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES' CLUB," which premieres in February 2015. Thousands of players will win a five-day, four-night trip for two to Las Vegas to be in the studio audience of a "MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES' CLUB" taping.

Contestants on the show will then be selected at random from the audience to play a series of games, each with a MONOPOLY theme, each of which will offer cash and other prizes valued up to $100,000. A final round will offer one player on each episode a shot at $1 million. More than $2.5 million in prize money is available to win on every episode.

Since 2006, there have been more than 170 MONOPOLY-themed lottery games launched globally with a retail value of nearly $5 billion, most performing 10% or more above industry averages, based on data from MDI Entertainment, LLC, a Scientific Games company. According to LaFleur's Magazine, "MONOPOLY Millionaire", distinct from the traditional MONOPOLY brand, was one of the most popular licensed brands in lottery gaming in fiscal year 2013. MDI Entertainment has introduced 14 MONOPOLY Millionaire lottery games with retail value in excess of $850 million since 2012.

*Participating states launching October 19: Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas and Washington D.C.

Lotto New Zealand Launch New Game Play 3

AUCKLAND, New Zealand (October 6, 2014) -- Lotto New Zealand has launched a brand new game today called Play 3, which provides an alternative to its traditional lottery games.

We want to offer our players a fun, new game that’s unique from our other games. It’s easy to play and we think Kiwis are going to love it,” said Lotto New Zealand’s Head of Product Justin Powell.

Play 3 gives players the chance to win prizes every day for just $1. All players need to do is pick a three-digit number and a play type and then try and match it to the winning number, drawn daily at 6pm.

Simple number games like Play 3 have been around internationally for over 50 years.

Most lotteries in North America and Asia offer a simple game like Play 3,” said Mr Powell. “It’s one of the most popular lottery games in places like New York.”

With Play 3, there is no large jackpot to be shared. Instead it offers fixed prize payouts, with good odds of winning and a top prize of $500.

Customers can choose any three-digit number to play, which may be guided by personal superstitions and circumstances. Favourite numbers are often linked to birthdays, anniversaries or house numbers.

And what is traditionally considered a ‘lucky’ number differs depending on the country you visit. In Chinese culture 8 is considered lucky because it’s pronounced similarly to the Chinese word for wealth and prosperity.

Memorably, to capitalise on number 8’s luck, the Beijing Olympics began at 8pm on 8 August 2008, creating a very lucky date for the Chinese hosts.

In other cultures, such as America, the UK and France, the number 7 is considered to be lucky due to a variety of reasons including its link to nature, such as the 7 seas, 7 continents, and 7 colours in the rainbow.

Whatever your superstitions are, Play 3 makes it easy to play your special numbers for a chance to win prizes every day.

Play 3 tickets are available for purchase now from all Lotto stores and online at The first Play 3 draw will take place tonight at 6pm.

Background information:

  • Play 3 is Lotto New Zealand’s new game that gives players the chance to win prizes every day
  • To play, simply choose a three-digit number and a play type. Match your number and play type to the winning number drawn daily at 6pm and you’re a winner
  • Play type includes exact match, any order match or match any pair of numbers.

  • The top prize available to win with a single Play 3 type is $500
  • Play 3 is drawn daily at 6pm. The full results of all draws are available at any time online at, by calling 0800 MYLOTTO (0800 695 6886), or at all Lotto stores.

RGA Calls on Greece to Open Online Gambling Market to Competition

ATHENS, Greece (Oct 2, 204) -- At the Greek Gaming Conference 2014 today the RGA will outline its concerns about the Greek online gambling regime and will make the case instead for the introduction of an open, regulated and fairly taxed market that would be to the benefit of both the Government and Greek consumers.

The Remote Gambling Association (“the RGA”) has consistently stated that the only viable long term market for online gambling in Greece is one that is open to multiple licensees who can provide the value, choice and range of products that are demanded by consumers. This is the only way to ensure that customers get the protection of a Greek licensing system and the Greek Government can benefit from taxation paid by licensed operators.

When the Greek authorities partially opened up the online gambling market in 2012 they allowed 24 EU-licensed gambling companies to provide online sports betting legally. It is estimated that they will pay almost €50 million gross gambling revenue tax to the Greek State in 2014.

Greek customers therefore already have a range of operators to bet with and have been protected through a robust licensing regime.

Now the Greek authorities, in a move designed to shore up the privatisation of OPAP, are intending to close down the 24 operators and create an online sports betting monopoly for OPAP.

The European Commission should have considerable concerns where markets are closed down without good reason and today the RGA will explain that those should include:

  • The Greek Government has consistently failed to implement its own laws to open up the online gambling market. Current legislation allows for the full opening of the online gambling market with licensing of online gambling operators but it has been limited to 24 temporary licenses which are now under threat of removal.
  • The Commission must at least have suspicions that the motivation for not offering licences for online gambling in the past two years had nothing to do with consumer protection but was designed to sell the Government’s shares in OPAP shares at the highest possible price. OPAP has been granted the monopoly without the proper tendering process. Even if a monopoly could be justified, and that is very difficult to believe, this means that other potential bidders have not had the opportunity to compete for the licence.
  • OPAP is a long established and successful business in Greece, but it is very inexperienced in the field of online gambling and it is not credible to suggest that it is better placed to protect consumers than companies who have been active in the sector for many years.
  • The Greek Government has not followed the correct European Union procedure for the implementation of legislation and has delayed responses to requests for information.

Schafer Systems Inc.

Sue Rossiter Director of Projects and Policy at the RGA said today: “The current situation for online gambling in Greece is damaging to the reputation of the Greek regulator and Government. It puts customers at risk by encouraging them to use unlicensed operators if they do not want to be restricted to the limited offer of OPAP. That will inevitably deny the Greek Government millions of Euros in gambling and associated taxes.

Holders of the 24 temporary licences have demonstrated that a well regulated regime has benefits for all concerned. An extension of this limited freedom to a fully regulated and taxed market can only widen those benefits.

In the absence of constructive progress to introduce an open, transparent and fair online gambling regime in Greece, the RGA will be relying on all legitimate options at its disposal, including legal challenges to the EU and the Greek courts, in order to get to a legal, clear, workable and fair resolution.”

Camelot UK Lotteries Limited Announce Half-Year Financial Results

LONDON, U.K. (October 6, 2014) -- Camelot UK Lotteries Limited (‘Camelot’) today announced that total UK National Lottery ticket sales for the first six months of its 2014/15 financial year (1 April – 27 September 2014) were £3,469.8 million, an increase of £158.0 million on the corresponding period last year and the second-highest interim total since The National Lottery launched in 1994.

During the period, Camelot generated £867.71 million for National Lottery Good Causes – taking the total raised to date to over £32 billion. National Lottery funding has now enabled more than 430,000 individual awards to be made across the UK – the equivalent of 138 National Lottery-funded projects in every postcode district. Over the same period, Camelot awarded £1,926.2 million in prizes to players – taking the total paid out to over £53 billion and the total number of lottery millionaires to more than 3,600.

Camelot’s overall performance over the half-year was driven by strong growth in both Lotto, following its successful re-launch last year, and instant play games – with sales of the latter breaking a number of records as a result of the launch of 30 innovative new games, higher prize payouts and the continuing rollout of up to 10,000 standalone terminals to meet untapped demand for National Lottery Scratchcards.

Total sales over the half-year would undoubtedly have been even higher had EuroMillions enjoyed as many big jackpot draws as it did in the first half of 2013/14 and had there been a repeat of last year’s special ‘100 UK Millionaires Raffle’ draw. Camelot is confident that its plans to refresh EuroMillions with a raft of exciting changes – which have always been planned for the second half of 2014/15 and include the introduction, for the first time ever, of some great non-cash prizes – will drive sales of the game over the second six months.

Andy Duncan, Chief Executive Designate of Camelot UK Lotteries Limited, said: “Thanks to the strong performance of both Lotto and instant play games, we’ve made a very positive start to the 2014/15 financial year. Delivering over £2.7 billion for National Lottery projects and players in just six months is a fantastic achievement.

“As we look forward to celebrating 20 years of The National Lottery next month, we’re determined to build on this momentum. We’ve just successfully launched a major new online and mobile platform, which is transforming the way players interact with our games across all devices. On top of that, we’ve got really exciting plans for the second half of the year – including special birthday events to thank our players and, starting later this month, some amazing new prizes on EuroMillions – which will ensure that The National Lottery continues to be truly life-changing for players and society.”

Camelot UK Lotteries Limited has also today published its accounts for the 2013/14 financial year. These show that, from total ticket sales of £6,730.9 million, £1,751.1 million was raised for National Lottery Good Causes and £3,636.6 million was awarded to players in prizes. Over the same period, £807.7 million was paid to the Government in Lottery Duty and £304.5 million was paid to retailers in commission. Camelot’s profit after tax in 2013/14 was £58.5 million. In line with previous years, this represented less than 1% of total revenue, while over 90% of total revenue went back to winners and society.

Monopoly Millionaires’ Club™ Lottery Game to Make More and More Millionaires

The Arkansas Scholarship Lottery Joins New Multi-State Lottery with National Television Series Inspired By Iconic Brand

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas (October 6, 2014) -- Arkansas is ready to mint some millionaires!

The Arkansas Scholarship Lottery will join lotteries across the country in offering a new draw game, MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB that will spread the wealth among players by offering multiple million dollar prizes in conjunction with a Top Prize that is capped at $25 million.

With three different ways to win, the MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB game is planned to go on sale in Arkansas on Oct. 19, and is the first game to combine the high-stakes and rich rewards of multi-state lottery gaming with the fun and entertainment of a national television game show featuring players selected from among the lottery’s ticket holders who have registered their tickets online or via a smartphone app.

Players can win the Top Prize (up to $25 million); become one of the many, randomly-selected $1 million winners when another player wins the Top Prize; or register a ticket online where they will build MONOPOLY brand themed property sets to earn entries in a drawing for a chance to appear on the nationally televised game show, which will have more than $2.5 million in available prize money on each episode.

MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB is a $5 draw game and will be the first multi-state draw game at this price level in the United States, though $5 is the most popular price point for instant scratch ticket games. This $5 price point strengthens the game’s play value while differentiating it within lottery draw game portfolios.

The unique design of the MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB lottery game is expected to generate more simultaneous millionaires than any other game in lottery history. With the draw taking place on Friday evenings at 11:15 p.m. Eastern, players across the country will have the opportunity to wake up a millionaire. In early 2015, the “MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB” television series will welcome players from participating states to its studio audience in Las Vegas where they will compete before a live audience to win $1 million.

Comedian and actor Billy Gardell (“Mike & Molly,” “You, Me and Dupree”) has been tapped to host the show.

The MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB lottery game represents a response to the wishes of lottery players who said that they would like a game with more substantial winners than just one or two enormous jackpot winners.

Monopoly Millionaires Club is set to make a lot of millionaires real quick,” Arkansas Scholarship Lottery Director Bishop Woosley said.. “It combines up to three ways to win with a game known the world over, a game nearly everybody is familiar with.”

This new approach to a national jackpot game was created by Scientific Games and branded with Hasbro’s iconic MONOPOLY game, which is one of the most well-known brands in the world.

The MONOPOLY brand is one of the most successful brands in gaming with players winning with MONOPOLY-branded lottery, slots and sweepstakes. With our MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB lottery game, the Top Prize will break the bank and make more millionaires than ever before,” said Steve Saferin, president of properties group and chief creative officer for Scientific Games.

Our player research consistently indicates that participants would prefer to see the millions of dollars in lottery prizing distributed to multiple winners, rather than one or two players winning hundreds of millions of dollars each.”

On each ticket in the MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB lottery game, there will be a unique code that players can use to register their tickets online for a chance to appear on the television show. Thousands of players will win a five-day, four-night trip for two to Las Vegas to join the show’s studio audience of other players.  Some studio audience members will be selected at random to compete on the television show. Contestants on the show will play a series of games with a MONOPOLY theme, each of which will offer cash and other prizes valued up to $100,000. A final round will offer one player on each episode a shot at $1 million.

The Arkansas Scholarship Lottery, approved by Arkansas voters as Proposed Constitutional Amendment No. 3 in 2008, and created by the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery Act of 2009, provides scholarships to Arkansas residents enrolled in public and private-nonprofit two-year and four-year colleges and universities within Arkansas. Since September 2009, the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery has raised over $452 million for scholarships to over 160,000 Arkansas students.

People's Postcode Lottery Deploys Postgres from EnterpriseDB to Expand Charitable Programs

BEDFORD, Massachusetts (October 6, 2014) - EnterpriseDB (EDB), the leading worldwide provider of enterprise-class Postgres products and database compatibility solutions, has today announced People's Postcode Lottery (PPL), a lottery management organization that supports charitable trusts and projects, has chosen to deploy EDB's Postgres Plus Advanced Server. People's Postcode Lottery adopted an open source based stack with EDB's Postgres Plus database and Red Hat JBoss Fuse to lower costs while supporting growth in the number of players and charities.

People's Postcode Lottery in the U.K. has raised more than $62 million for charity. The organization needed to update its core lottery system to lower costs and support an increase in transactions. The team discovered, however, that its upgrade plans would have led to higher maintenance and operational costs for its legacy Oracle database and application.

Instead, PPL looked for a new solution and selected EDB's Postgres Plus Advanced Server as its database with Red Hat JBoss Fuse to support the integration with internal and external applications. The organization worked with Trivento, a solutions provider based in the Netherlands, on the project due to Trivento's experience with charitable organizations and the available combination of the EDB and Red Hat software products.

Alec Burrett, head of data services at People's Postcode Lottery, explained: "We had challenging goals for this year to expand but also reduce operational costs by 25 percent. Trivento showed us that EnterpriseDB's solution would be able to provide the functionality of Oracle at a lower cost and with greater scalability. Adopting open source solutions with Red Hat and EnterpriseDB helped us meet our objectives."

Postgres Plus Advanced Server with database compatibility for Oracle provides enterprise-class performance and the ability to support Oracle applications. With database compatibility, Postgres Plus allows PPL to meet its goals without additional fees and the need for an expensive rip-and-replace, all while continuing to use existing skills and tools.

Red Hat JBoss Fuse is an open source Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) that offers organizations a robust, flexible, and easy-to-use platform to integrate applications, data, services, and devices. The integration platform uses popular open source technologies, including Apache Camel, to provide transformation, routing, and protocol-matching services. The technology eases the development and maintenance of integration solutions and provides a vast array of connectivity options. For example, with Red Hat JBoss Fuse, PPL is able to expand functionality by easily adapting modules and allowing modules to communicate with each other more quickly.

"The needs of People's Postcode Lottery align perfectly with what we do best help organizations of all sizes cut database costs by deploying an enterprise-class, open source based alternative to proprietary databases," said Sandor Klein, Vice President, International Sales at EnterpriseDB. "The powerful combination of Postgres and JBoss Fuse are creating new opportunities for cost savings across the enterprise software stack."

Mike Piech, general manager of Middleware at Red Hat, further clarified the importance of the project: "For organizations with tight budgets, the combination of Red Hat JBoss Fuse and Postgres is a great option. Red Hat's enterprise-grade open source integration solution enables organizations to deliver better business solutions faster and reduce total cost of ownership. Pairing software from Red Hat and EnterpriseDB helps organizations like PPL cut costs and reallocate budget to more strategic initiatives."

With the new solution, PPL has been able to meet its goal of reducing operational costs by 25 percent and users have reported positively on the increased functionality and improved design of the new solution. Organizations like PPL are increasingly turning to open source based solutions to lower costs and gain the greater flexibility that comes from freedom from vendor lock-in. With EnterpriseDB and Red Hat, People's Postcode Lottery hopes to continue to expand and bring even more aid to its charities and communities.

Deluxe Fan Experience Up for Grabs from Non-winning Louisiana Lottery SAINTS Scratch-offs

Article By:

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (October 3, 2014) -- From now until Oct. 20, players can enter their non-winning Louisiana Lottery $5 SAINTS scratch-offs into the game’s second second-chance drawing to be eligible to win the 2014 Deluxe Fan Experience Package including limousine transportation to and from the Nov. 9 game against San Francisco for the winner and three guests, four Plaza Club Sideline tickets to the game, pregame field passes, one night hotel accommodation (two rooms) and $500 spending cash, plus four authentic Saints jerseys to declare their spirit!  In addition, nine lucky winners will receive either an autographed jersey, helmet or football.

The 2014 SAINTS scratch-off game includes three scenes with the team’s iconic fleur-de-lis logo emblazoned in shiny gold metallic ink with top prizes of $100,000 plus the opportunity to enter nonwinning tickets into a series of second-chance drawings to win unique game-day prize experiences or official autographed Saints merchandise.

We upped our game with this years’ experience prizes that include exclusive access to areas of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and game activities usually off-limits to fans,” explained Lottery President Rose Hudson. “When players don’t win an instant prize on SAINTS, they can use it to enter their favorite second-chance drawing to win a one-of-a-kind experience guaranteed to make this Saints season one to remember!

To enter the second-chance drawings, players should complete the information on the back of non-winning $5 SAINTS scratch-off tickets and mail one ticket per envelope (no larger than 4.5" by 9.5") to the drawing address printed on the back of the ticket. Players can enter as many times as they wish, but each entry should be mailed in a separate envelope.

During the first second-chance drawing held Sept. 16, John Pickens’ non-winning Louisiana Lottery SAINTS scratch-off was selected from more than 10,000 entries to win the 2014 Saints Tunnel Team Experience Prize Package.

Originally from Idaho, Pickens has been a die-hard fan Saints fan for decades. “I adopted them as my team when I moved to Louisiana in 1969,” he said.

The 62-year-old winner from Summit, Miss., said he plans to take his wife and children to accompany him on the field as the Saints come marching into the Mercedes-Benz Superdome ahead of the Oct. 5 game against Tampa Bay. The prize package also includes four Plaza Club Sideline tickets to the game, pregame field passes, hotel accommodations and $500 spending cash.

I usually watch the games alone so I can focus!” Pickens joked, but readily admitted that this would be a wonderful exception to his typical game-day routine.

Also during the game’s first second-chance drawing, nine finalists won official autographed Saints merchandise. Patricia Gonsuron of New Iberia, Mary Muilenburg of Houma and Jay Doucet of Metairie won an autographed jersey. Gary D. Robinson of Alexandria, Geraldine Hopper of Metairie and Rayar Johnson of Buckatunna, Miss., won an autographed helmet. John W. McDonner of Jarreau, Reggil Harris of Baton Rouge and Patrick Dean of LaPlace won an autographed football.

Complete game and second-chance drawing entry rules, prizes and a second-chance drawing schedule can be found on the Lottery's website, Lottery ticket purchasers and second-chance drawing entrants must be at least 21 years of age. If you or someone you know has a gambling problem, help is available by calling 1-877-770-7867. For security purposes, the Lottery encourages players to sign the back of their tickets immediately after purchasing.

The National Football League, its member professional football clubs, NFL Ventures, Inc., NFL Ventures, L.P., NFL Properties LLC, NFL Enterprises LLC and each of their respective subsidiaries, affiliates, shareholders, officers, directors, agents, representatives and employees (collectively, the “NFL Entities”) will have no liability or responsibility for any claim arising in connection with participation in this lottery or the prize awarded. The NFL Entities have not offered or sponsored this lottery in any way.

Shoutz, Inc. won two American Gaming Association Communications Awards during the 2014 Global Gaming Expo, the gaming-entertainment industry’s largest trade show.

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (October 8, 2014) -- Shoutz, Inc. won two American Gaming Association Communications Awards during the 2014 Global Gaming Expo, the gaming-entertainment industry’s largest trade show.

Each year, the AGA “recognizes outstanding advertising, public relations, marketing and financial and corporate communications in the gaming-entertainment industry,” with their Communications Awards.

Shoutz’s mobile application, LotteryHUB, is an official app of Powerball and Mega Millions. Shoutz’s marketing through the LotteryHUB app earned them first prizes in the Best Mobile Marketing and Best Direct Digital Marketing categories in this year’s Communications Awards.

This is the second year in a row that Shoutz has won the top prize in the Best Mobile Marketing category. In 2013, their winning entry demonstrated the highly successful launch of LotteryHUB.

It’s such an honor to win not one, but two Voice Awards this year,” said Shoutz Director of Marketing Jamie Smith. ”To be named the Best Mobile Marketers in the industry is very exciting, and we’re happy to be recognized for our direct messaging campaigns, which we’ve worked hard to get right.”

Shoutz’s 2014 submissions showed how LotteryHUB leverages digital and mobile technology to provide engaging content and convenient tools for lottery players. They also demonstrated the ways in which LotteryHUB’s messaging campaigns keep players closer than ever before to their favorite games.

Push notifications remind players to buy tickets, notify them of live drawings, and alert them to any potential winnings. Email messaging also alerts players to potential winnings, but also acts as a content distribution platform that delivers additional engaging content directly to players inboxes.

Shoutz also showed how their engagement platform and LotteryHUB messaging campaigns have helped generate revenue for their lottery partners in the U.S.

We entered the lottery industry with the knowledge that we were doing something unprecedented. Winning Best Mobile Marketing two years in a row speaks to the strength of our products, and to our ability to move the lottery industry forward,” said Shoutz CEO Jim Mueller.

We’re very proud of our unique ability to keep players informed, engaged and entertained with our opt-in messaging campaigns,” Mueller said. “We knew LotteryHUB users loved our messaging, and winning Best Direct Digital Marketing tells us that our peers in the industry have recognized the power of great mobile engagement, too.”

This year’s submission for the Best Mobile Marketing category was titled “The Lottery Industry's Mobile Marketer: LotteryHUB.” Shoutz’s Best Direct Digital Marketing submission was titled “LotteryHUB: The Mobile Billboard and Every Lottery Player’s Teammate.”

Brazil FIFA World Cup - One-Time Revenue Boost or Sustainable Industry Turnaround?

  • New Q3 2014 online gambling data report revealed
  • Comprehensive quarterly report analysing updated benchmarks, KPIs, trends, ... covering all sectors of the online gambling industry

LONDON / MUNICH, (October 8, 2014) -- The first half of 2014 was marked above all by the FIFA World Cup and some events, such as the PokerStars acquisition, that shook up the industry. Therefore, it's again time for MECN’s researchers to publish their new Q3 2014 Online Gambling Quarterly report. This report covers online gambling industry benchmarks, KPIs, and related topics and comes to mixed conclusions in its analysis of the overall state of the industry.

FIFA World Cup boosted revenue growth

The analyses of the financial results of a large number of online gambling operators show that the growth rates of many KPIs and financial figures (e.g., total revenue, ...) rose in Q2 2014 and H1 2014 mostly due to the FIFA World Cup.

  • The Q2 2014 average total revenue growth rate (compared to the year before, across all verticals/segments) was at 19%, up from 5% in Q1 2014.
  • In H2 2014 the average total revenue growth (compared to the year before, across all verticals/segments) was 9%, up from 5% in H1 2014.
  • The next quarters will tell whether the FIFA World Cup had only a one-time effect or served perhaps as the starting signal for the market’s recovery.

Industry climate only "satisfactory" with no improvements likely in the future

Despite the recent revenue growth, most of the experts surveyed in MECN’s panel assess the current business climate as only "satisfactory" (on a scale ranging from "poor" to "satisfactory" to "good"). Martin Oelbermann, co-author of the study, explains further: “It seems that since fall 2013 the business climate assessment has stayed at "satisfactory" without any major changes - neither for the worse nor for the better". Additionally, the market insiders surveyed also do not expect the business climate to change over the next 12 months (the survey includes about 35 executives of the online gambling industry, among them many CEOs of key operators).

Mobile makes currently averages 29% of total revenue

For more than three years now the online gambling industry has declared the mobile channel its key growth driver. However, although the mobile business is becoming more and more important, operators do not (yet) have consistent reporting standards (KPIs) regarding their mobile revenues. In regard to comparable benchmarks two KPIs are currently usable:

  • Mobile total revenue
  • Mobile in % of total revenue - On average, the operators analysed generate 29% of their total online revenue via mobile channels (Q2 / H1 2014 figures).

Winners and losers in the future - Ladbrokes and Betfair seem to be on a good track again

The online gambling industry is no longer a sure-fire success with every market player getting a fair share of the market. As mentioned above, times continue to be tough, and the market will see "winners" and "losers".

According to the experts MECN surveyed, Bet365 and Paddy Power will likely be among the "winners" and will be able to grow their market shares the most in the next 12 months.

Among the companies with the largest improvements in regard to the experts' expectations of the future market shares were Ladbrokes and Betfair (see exhibit 1 - comparison of March and September data). Both companiesare currently undergoing major restructuring but on the whole, industry experts seem to believe in the success of these improvements and expect market shares to grow in the next 12 months.
