GTECH Announce Reorganization of GTECH Americas Management Team and Creation of New Lottery Management Services Structure

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (March 21, 2014) -- GTECH S.p.A. has reorganized its Americas management team to meet its customers’ growing needs for an integrated offering across multiple gaming channels, including lottery, VLT, commercial casino, and interactive gaming. It has also created a new Lottery Management Services structure to meet lotteries’ increasing needs for greater efficiency and reliable profits through private or outsourced management services provided by GTECH.

The new management team, which reports to GTECH Americas President and CEO Jaymin B. Patel, reflects GTECH’s Customer First objectives by anticipating opportunities to help customers build their player bases due to rapid changes in the Americas gaming landscape.

Those changes include the growth of regulated interactive gaming, accelerating use of mobile technology, and the convergence between land-based and interactive gaming technologies. The Americas region continues to work hand-in-hand with GTECH’s centralized Products and Services team for all marketing and technology support.

The reorganized Americas management team includes:

  • Alan Eland, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, North America. After almost three decades with GTECH, Alan has announced his decision to retire from the Company effective January 1, 2015. For the remainder of this year, Alan will manage GTECH’s relationships with the California Lottery, Texas Lottery, and oversee a portfolio of Canadian jurisdictions and Western Region states. Alan will also continue to manage GTECH’s printing and Client Services operations.
  • Jay Gendron, Senior Vice President, United States. Jay, who has 20 years of experience managing GTECH’s Lottery and Gaming sales and operational activities across 13 states in the U.S. Eastern region, will be responsible for preparing U.S. customers for the next phase in the lottery industry’s evolution as technology and gaming channels converge.
  • Victor Duarte, Senior Vice President, North American Commercial Gaming. In addition to his current role as Senior Vice President of Gaming and Content, Victor will be responsible for leading sales activities with our Commercial and Tribal Casino customers in North America. His experience and knowledge of the commercial gaming market will ensure that casino customers can retain and attract players by offering the most compelling gaming experiences and game content.
  • Matteo Monteverdi, Senior Vice President, Americas Interactive. In addition to his current role as Senior Vice President, iGaming, Matteo will work with Americas gaming customers to leverage the latest technological and regulatory developments to build a foundation of sustainable and effective interactive gaming programs.
  • Connie Laverty O’Connor, Senior Vice President and Chief Customer Officer. Connie will continue to be a liaison with GTECH customers, dedicated to helping deliver their business plans and execution strategies. During the next several months, Connie will transition from the role of interim CEO of GTECH Indiana and focus on significant customer and industry initiatives, and multi-jurisdictional opportunities.


In addition, the Lottery Management Services team has been created to leverage GTECH’s operational expertise and best practices drawn from its experience as a private manager/outsourced operator in Illinois, Indiana, and New Jersey. Marco Tasso, Senior Vice President, Lottery Management Services, will lead this new team, and will have overall Profit and Loss responsibility for all Lottery Management Services contracts in North America. During his time at Lottomatica, Tasso was instrumental in the brand transformation and impressive revenue growth of Italy’s Scratch and Win, the world’s largest instant ticket business.

The following leaders have also been appointed to the new Lottery Management Services structure:

  • Scott Howarth, Vice President, Lottery Management Services, will be responsible for shared best practices in areas such as organizational development, product innovation, retail optimization, business process execution, and facilitating the annual business planning process.
  • Tim Simonson, Chief Executive Officer, Northstar Lottery Group, will be responsible for managing the business relationship with the Illinois Lottery and delivering the business plan.
  • Colin Hadden, Vice President and General Manager, GTECH Indiana, will bring his extensive customer relations and operational experience to the Hoosier Lottery to help drive its growth plan.
  • Russ Knapp, Vice President and General Manager, Northstar New Jersey, will be responsible for meeting the expectations of the New Jersey Lottery and delivering Northstar’s business plan.

INTRALOT Announce 2013 Full Year Results: Revenues Exceeded €1.5 Billion

EBITDA Increase of 9.7%

ATHENS, Greece (March 26, 2014) -- INTRALOT, the leading international gaming company, announces today its financial results for the twelve-month period ending December 31st, 2013, prepared in accordance with IFRS.

INTRALOT Group’s Consolidated Revenues for FY2013 increased by 12% compared to FY2012, reaching €1,539.4 billion. Net of a negative FX impact of €80.1m, revenues reached €1,619.5m, posting an increase of 17.9% y-o-y in FY 2013. EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortization) posted an increase of 9.7% reaching €194.8m. Νet of a negative FX impact of €8.9m, EBITDA reached €203.7m, an increase of 14.7% y-o-y in FY 2013. EBT was shaped at €53,6m.

EAT-am (Earnings After Taxes and after minorities) were shaped at €-4.6m and was strongly affected by €10.8m of negative FX differences on an after tax and after minority level plus write-offs and provisions of €13.7m. Excluding such costs the Net Profit would have reached €19.9m in the FY 2013 period.

Cash Flow from Operations reached €81.3m in the 12M, 2013 period. Net Debt in the same period decreased by €30.7m to €397.2m compared to 9M 2013, mainly due to improved operating cash-flow generation and capex easing in the last quarter of 2013. FX impact on cash for FY 2013 was 22.6m.

Revenues for the parent company during FY2013 increased by 8.1%, to €150.9m. EBITDA increased by 5.8% to €23.1m. Earnings After Taxes (EAT) were shaped at €-0.1m.

Commenting on FY2013 results, INTRALOT Group CEO, Mr. Constantinos Antonopoulos, noted: “2013 was an important year for the Group, since we won several new contracts in Europe, Asia and Australia, and we renewed major contracts in the US, Europe and Asia. Moreover, we launched innovative products in the interactive and retail fields, such as the Mobile Lottery, Virtual Games, the Multi-channel Lottery, DreamTouch, iGEM and DeepStack Casino.

Five More Years! British Columbia Lottery Corporation Awards Pollard Banknote Contract Extension

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, (March 26, 2014) -- Pollard Banknote Limited (TSX: PBL) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a five-year contract extension by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (“BCLC”) for the supply of instant ticket games and related services. NagaWorld and Kambi Sign an Agreement for a Land Based Sportsbook Solution

Gambling Commission Strengthens Senior Team

BIRMINGHAM, U.K. (March 18, 2014) -- The Gambling Commission has continued its push to bring in a range of industry expertise with the engagement of two senior industry figures ahead of the implementation of the changes proposed in the Gambling (Licensing and Advertising) Bill.

Ladbrokes Customer Services Director Sue Harley and Roger Parkes, former Director of Group Compliance at Betfair, will both work with the Commission in coming months and will provide expertise and insight to support the Commission’s work in regulating remote gambling operators based offshore.

Sue Harley joins the Commission in early April on a fixed term contract.* As an Executive Director, she will take on responsibility for a broad policy and management portfolio.

Roger Parkes is already working with the Commission, providing additional experience and input into the Commission’s preparations for implementation of the Bill.

These arrangements supplement the expertise in the Commission’s existing cross-functional teams in areas such as enforcement, legal, intelligence gathering and player protection.

National Lottery Celebrates ‘Millionaire’ Turning Eleven

SAN SALVADOR, Republic of El Salvador (March 20, 2014) -- Lotería Nacional de Beneficencia de El Salvador (LNB) dedicated a recent draw to the anniversary of The Millionaire Eleven.

Beginning today, through Sunday, May 18, players who purchase a Florida Lottery BIG 3 POWER PACK at select retailers in the Miami and West Palm Beach areas will receive a voucher that contains a unique number to be entered on the Lottery’s website for a chance to win a fly-away trip to a 2014 Miami HEAT Playoff game, season tickets for the 2014-15 Miami HEAT season, player meet and greets, autographed merchandise and more.

Kentucky Lottery Sales Hold Steady Through the Start of 2014

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (March 25, 2014) -- At Friday’s meeting of the Kentucky Lottery Corporation’s (KLC’s) board of directors, it was announced FY14 sales continue to beat last year’s results but are below budget.

Total year-to-date sales through February were $564.4 million, which is $12.7 million more than the same period in the previous fiscal year but $18.5 million less than budgeted. Sales were spurred by the launch of Keno in November.

Sales of that product line have been $14.6 million, which is $3.9 million more than budgeted for the period. An additional 100 retailers have been added since the game’s launch.

Income before transfer of dividends to the Commonwealth for the FY to date was $150.5 million, which is $3.5 million more than last year but $742,000 less than budgeted.

Senior Vice President of Finance and CFO Howard Kline told the board revenue projections for the remainder of the FY appear to show the KLC will meet the dividends amount the Commonwealth expects for the year.

Kline added, “We’ve seen a great rebound in sales over the past five weeks, thanks in part to a solid jackpot run by our Mega Millions game and player interest in our new $25 anniversary scratch-off ticket.”

In other action, the board re-elected Keith Griffee as chair. The Bullitt County resident serves as a market president for PBI Bank.

June Hudson, a retiree from Benton, was also re-elected as vice chair.

The board also approved contracts with:

  • Smartplay International for drawing machine maintenance and repair services;
  • Garron Lottery Products for draw machines, ball sets and related services;
  • Delehanty Consulting LLC for third-party security assessment and related services;
  • Fortune Realty for the lease of the Lexington regional office and warehouse space, and;
  • Goldberg Simpson LLC and Valenti Handley & Robinson for legal services.


Rules and regulations for 14 scratch-off tickets and an amendment to the rules for the draw game 5 Card Cash were also approved.

The next meeting of the KLC’s board of directors will be May 30. The meeting will begin at 9:30 AM EST, and will be held at the KLC headquarters at 1011 West Main Street in Louisville. Committee meetings will begin at 8:30 AM EST.

New Hampshire Lottery Celebrates 50 Years

Nation’s first Lottery has delivered 50 years of winning, $3.2 billion in prizes and over $1.5 billion to education

CONCORD, New Hampshire (March 12, 2014) -- The country’s first Lottery is celebrating 50th years of winning and delivering over $1.5 billion to education in New Hampshire. The New Hampshire Lottery is marking the milestone with exciting new opportunities for players to continue the winning tradition along with the introduction of a new, limited edition $25 Granite Millions commemorative scratch ticket, with a top prize of $2 million and the highest overall payout in the United States of $25 million in prizes to be won.

The New Hampshire Lottery formally kicked off its 50th celebration this morning with Governor Maggie Hassan purchasing the first Granite Millions ticket at the State House. Eleven customer appreciation events will be held throughout the state starting this afternoon at the Bi-Wise Market in Allenstown and running through September.


"Fifty years ago, we set out to bring the fun and excitement of winning to the people of New Hampshire, becoming the first Lottery in the nation,” said Charlie McIntyre, Executive Director of the New Hampshire Lottery. “You might say the New Hampshire Lottery invented lucky and we intend on creating more lucky Lottery winners in the next 50 years!”

Governor John W. King signed the bill making New Hampshire home to the first state-run lottery in the nation on April 30, 1963 and the first tickets went on sale on March 12, 1964. Since its inception, the New Hampshire Lottery has recorded more than $5 billion in lottery sales and other earnings, with over $3.2 billion being paid in prizes and other cost of sales. Even more impressive has been the Lottery’s commitment to education. Net proceeds to education total more than $1.5 billion to date.

From March through September the Lottery will be traveling throughout the state to 11 different retail locations to celebrate 50 years by offering customers a fun experience, free food and numerous opportunities to win, including a $50,000 anniversary giveaway contest, $50 instant cash prizes, and several in-store promotions.

Veikkaus Annual General Meeting: the Full-Year 2013 Earnings €506.3 Million to be Distributed as Directed in Accordance with the Distribution Act

FINLAND (March 20, 2014) -- The Annual General Meeting of the Veikkaus the Board of Directors decided to allocate for the full year 2013 profit of EUR 506 300 000 to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture and games, supervised by the Ministry of Interior for distribution to Finnish arts, sports, science and youth work.

Per capita, distribution of our proceeds to society is the largest gaming companies. In addition, the General Meeting decided to allocate €25.6 million from the reserve fund in order it to pay the state for distribution to the agreed €531.9 million euros.

Veikkaus' retained earnings are further divided into the Finnish welfare as directed in accordance with the distribution Act: Arts 38.5 per cent, 25 per cent of physical science by 17.5 per cent and nine per cent to youth work.

In addition, the budget is allocated each year to these same parties 10% of the specified separately by the way.

Veikkaus paid to the State in 2013 lottery tax of EUR 99.8 million (+1.1%), as well as value-added tax of € 21.9 million (+1.9%).

Budget Bingo Tax Cut to Create and Save Hundreds of Jobs and Revitalize Industry

Industry welcomes tax cut and unveils plans for the future

LONDON, U.K. (March 25, 2014) -- The UK bingo industry has welcomed last week’s Budget tax cut and announced plans to reinvest the savings in jobs and revitalising the sector.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne today visited Castle Leisure’s Cardiff bingo club, where he met staff and members, as part of a series of visits to Wales following last week’s Budget.

Castle Leisure runs 11 bingo clubs, with eight in South Wales and three in England. The company plans to use some of the money they will save in Bingo Duty to bring forward a 3.5% pay-rise for staff by six weeks, so that they receive it before Christmas.

Castle will also create 100 new jobs in the next three years by increasing their capital investment substantially. They will now invest £5.5 million in refurbishing their existing clubs and £7.5 million in developing a new bingo club.

The Rank Group, which operates 97 Mecca Bingo clubs around the country, announced that it intends to open three new bingo halls as a result of the tax reduction. It will also restart its modernisation programme, which will involve at least £6 million capital investment over the next three years.

As a result, the Rank Group expects to create more than 200 new jobs and safeguard many existing ones. They are also committing to pass on some of the savings to members in the form of lower prices and bigger prizes.

Gala Bingo has announced that it too will pass on some of the benefits of the tax cut to its customers. It will open a new club in Southampton, investing £5 million and creating 50 new jobs. Plans to close nine clubs will be scrapped, saving almost 200 jobs. Gala will also reinvest £40 million in stepping up its programme of club refurbishments.

Crown Bingo, an independent operator, has said that the tax cut means that its Portsmouth club, which was facing closure, will now receive the investment it needs to save it, protecting the jobs of its 25 members of staff, some of whom have worked for Crown for over 25 years.

The Bingo Association has welcomed the decision to reduce tax on Bingo on behalf of all its members including the 51 independent Bingo Companies and the two larger chains, Mecca and Gala. Its members have committed to reinvesting the tax saved in a number of different ways.

Early indications are that they will create new jobs and safeguard many more existing ones. Bingo club members will see facilities invested in and modernised, they will see new bingo clubs open, and value to customers in some clubs will also increase through reduced prices or improved prizes.

Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne said:

Bingo clubs up and down the country support many jobs. By cutting in half the tax that they pay, we are backing an industry that is so much more than the sum of its parts.”

Miles Baron, Chief Executive of the Bingo Association, said:

We are already seeing evidence that the duty reduction on bingo will be transformational for operators and customers. The Bingo Association wants to thank bingo fans and players, the MPs who got behind us and the Chancellor, for delivering the stimulus we needed. Communities across the country will now benefit from investment in premises, jobs and better value for customers.”

Jeff Harris, Chief Executive of Castle Leisure, added:

This tax cut means that we can reinvest money in growing the business and creating jobs. It will make a huge difference to Castle, our staff and the communities we serve.”

The Budget announced a cut in the rate of Bingo Duty from 20% to 10% to support bingo clubs. This will benefit all bingo operators in the UK. In 2012, there were 400 bingo clubs, employing 12,000 people. Six million people are retail members of the Bingo Association, half of them playing regularly.

Lottery Association Critical of Inequable Gambling Tax Rates

PRAGUE, Czech Republic (March 25, 2014) – The Association of operators of central lottery systems and other games ("SPELOS") said it strongly disagrees with the information that the Ministry of Finance comment that Závodský Andrew, Deputy Minister of Finance, presented to the media. The Association says it is apparently an attempt to re-raise the tax burden on lottery companies.

According to information published in Hospodářské of March 25, 2014, the Ministry of Finance is preparing differences in tax levels, with the VLT + VHP state tax at the highest rate. They should at least be raising taxes for odds betting. And, somewhere between these segments should then be casinos.


SPELOS members are already burdened by VHP and VLT and, addition to the 20% lottery tax an additional fee of CZK55 for each day of operation, which together account for almost 30% of the tax that is directly of turnover, without application of any cost.

Moreover lottery companies cannot deduct VAT and obviously applies to income tax. Other tax increases is therefore no liquidation.

"I do not understand why it should be opposed tax rate for casinos and other gaming sites, though both may be the same device. We consider this step discriminates against operators who do not have their facilities located in casinos. Moreover, while all the instruments placed in restaurants and amusement arcades - the VHP and the VLT are to have the new maximum bet 2 or 5 crowns, which are outdated limits of the early nineties, at exactly the same equipment, but placed in casinos, this level will be approximately ten or 50 crowns, which I think is nonsense. Equally incomprehensible to me is an effort to unify MF betting limits for obsolete VHP and modern VLT, which are far more sophisticated and technologically advanced and state supervision as well as transparent. In addition, enable online checking, various security measures and registration of players and thus prevent the game not only to young people, but also socially weak. Therefore the operator as a much higher investment,” added Vrzáň.

SPELOS will also monitor the progress of the Ministry in relation to the operators of online games that are equal in terms of EU VLT and VHP. This procedure so far seems to be conceptually unclear. A number of studies have also clearly shown that the dependency potential in both the aforementioned segment of the same or at least comparable to that of women for online games pose far greater risks.

Hoosier Millionaire TV Shows Kick-Off in Evansville
