GTECH 2013 Fourth Quarter and Full Year Results Comparison

ROME (ITALY) – PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND (US), (March 13, 2014) – GTECH S.p.A.’s Board of Directors, chaired by Mr. Lorenzo Pellicioli, today reviewed both the fourth quarter and full year consolidated results, and approved the financial statements for the year ended December 31, 2013. The Board will propose to the Annual Shareholders’ Meeting a cash dividend of €0.75 per share, with an ex-dividend date of May 19, 2014, payable on May 22, 2014.

During 2013, GTECH met or exceeded its key performance objectives and made significant gains in strategic growth segments while successfully executing a major reorganization,” said Marco Sala, CEO of GTECH S.p.A. "For the coming year, we expect to sustain our momentum as we build on these achievements. We continue to advance our interactive capabilities, notably in the mobile gaming space, to address some of the fastest growing areas of the market. We are also well positioned to secure new international operator opportunities."

We generated full-year significant levered free cash flow of €326 million, up 8% over 2012,” said Alberto Fornaro, CFO of GTECH S.p.A. “Our Net Financial Position improved to €2.51 billion compared to €2.55 billion. Over the next two years we expect to achieve approximately €50 million of annual recurring cost savings, through a number of initiatives that we have identified and started to implement.”

Fourth Quarter Consolidated Results

Consolidated Revenues were €773 million compared to €813 million in the fourth quarter of 2012. At constant currency, revenues would have been €790 million. Total Service Revenues were in line with the prior year level at €722 million. Product sales were €51 million versus €90 million in the same period last year when the Company recorded significant machine gaming product sales in Canada.

EBITDA, at €245 million, was in line with the 2012 fourth quarter level.

Operating Income was €104 million, versus €126 million in the fourth quarter of 2012, principally due to lower product sales and €15 million in restructuring charges related to the 2013 group-wide reorganization.

During the quarter, the Company reached an agreement to resolve three tax matters in Italy resulting in a one-time settlement of €34.7 million, of which €6.3 million had previously been provisioned by the Company.

Net Income attributable to the owners was €1 million, compared to €63 million in the 2012 fourth quarter, due principally to the lower level of operating income and the one-time tax settlement.

Diluted Earnings-Per-Share (EPS) was €0.01, compared to €0.36 in the fourth quarter of last year.

Capital Expenditures in the quarter were €73 million.

Net Financial Position (NFP) in the quarter improved by €86 million.

WLA Quarterly Lottery Sales Indicator

Full year global lottery sales up by 4.9%; growth driven by Latin America and Asia Pacific

WLA Sales Indicator

BASEL, Switzerland (March 12, 2014) -- In 2013, full-year on full-year global lottery sales grew 4.9%, moderating from 2012 full-year on full-year growth of 7.7%. The growth in worldwide lottery sales was again built on the foundations of strong performances from the Asia Pacific and Latin American regions, with both these regions having recorded double-digit growth in sales over the past three consecutive quarters. The strong performance of the Asia Pacific and Latin American markets was offset, however, by the performance of the European region, which saw full-year on full-year sales contract in 2013. For its part, the North American market registered mild year-on-year gains for 2013, while the African market for FY 2013 was basically unchanged relative to its overall position in FY 2012. The tempering of sales globally in 2013, together with recent political and economic developments worldwide such as the crisis in Ukraine and heightened economic instability in Argentina, suggests it would be prudent to adopt a cautious outlook on global lottery sales for 2014. Indeed, global growth in world lottery sales has now slowed for two years in succession, after reaching a high point in 2011, as the attendant graph shows.

The Latin American market enjoyed the strongest performance of any market in 2013, with participating Latin American lotteries reporting an aggregate full-year on full-year increase in sales of 21.4%. Growth in Latin America was fuelled by Argentina’s Lotería Nacional Sociedad del Estado, which reported a prodigious twelve-month on twelve-month increase in sales of 31.4%. Chile’s Polla Chilena de Beneficencia also performed strongly, recording a full-year on full-year increase in sales of 15.1% on the back of a very good first-half showing. Brazil’s Caixa Econômica Federal also performed robustly, with an 8.8% increase in sales for FY 2013 against FY 2012.

The Asia Pacific region also fared impressively, with participating Asia Pacific lotteries witnessing an aggregate full-year on full-year increase in sales of 13.1%. The mainstay of growth in the Asia Pacific region was again the participating mainland Chinese lotteries. The China Sports Lottery delivered a twelve-month on twelve-month increase in sales of 20.2%, with the China Welfare lottery following on closely behind with a whole-year on whole-year increase in sales of 16.9%. On the other hand, Japan’s Takara-kuji lottery saw its sales fall for the twelve months up to and including December 2013, as against the twelve months up to and including December 2012. The decrease in sales at the Takara-kuji lottery is largely attributable to the very positive response of the Japanese public to the one-off special lottery held in February 2012 to raise funds for reconstruction work after the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 2011. Indeed, for the nine months April–December 2013, sales at the Takara-kuji lottery were up by 4% on sales for the corresponding period of 2012.

The North American market slightly improved on FY 2012 results, with participating North American lotteries posting an aggregate full-year on full-year increase in sales of 2.1%. The standout performer in the North American region was the California Lottery, which boasted a full-year on full-year increase in sales of 8.8%. The Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation also fared well, reporting a twelve-month on twelve-month increase in sales of 5%. The comparatively modest overall position of the North American region for FY 2013 relative to FY 2012 is apparently attributable to the enormous popularity of the record-breaking US $656 Mega Millions draw of March, 2012, which pushed Q1 2013 results for participating North American lotteries deep into negative territory in comparison to results for Q1 2012. In contrast, lottery sales for participating North American lotteries grew 6.5% for the period Q1–Q3 2013, as against the period Q1–Q3 2012.

The African region was flat in 2013, with participating African lotteries recording an aggregate increase in full-year on full-year sales of 0.3%. The highlight of the African market was the performance of Morocco’s La Marocaine des Jeux, which showcased a twelve-month on twelve-month increase in sales of 11.7%. The strong showing of La Marocaine des Jeux was counterbalanced by results from the other participating African lotteries, which saw sales decline slightly across the board.

In Europe, lottery sales contracted in 2013, with participating European lotteries recording an aggregate decrease in full-year on full-year sales of 2.1%. With Eurostat reporting that GDP fell over the whole year 2013 by 0.5% across the euro area (EA17 countries) and rising by only 0.1% across the EU28 countries in the same period, the operating environment in 2013 was clearly a difficult one for lotteries. Sales at Greece’s OPAP fell particularly sharply in the first half of 2013 as against the first half of 2012, contracting by 15.1%, while year-on-year sales declined at several other participating PIIGS lotteries, including Spain’s Lotterias y Apuestas del Estado. In better news, however, European economic performance improved slightly in Q4 2013, with GDP rising by 0.3% in the euro area and by 0.4% in the EU28 during the fourth quarter of 2013, as compared with the previous quarter. The uptick in the economic outlook was apparently reflected in the fourth quarter sales figures of a number of participating lotteries in Europe, such as Finland’s Veikkaus, which saw its fourth-quarter on fourth-quarter sales rise by 9.1%. The Czech Republic’s SAZKA sázková kancelář, a.s. proved the exception to the general trends in Europe, seeing its sales rise by 25.6% in FY 2013, as compared to FY 2012. The strong showing of SAZKA sázková kancelář, a.s. was due to a confluence of several factors, including a successful restructuring of the company following a difficult 2011, and the continued success of its Sportka offering.

The WLA Quarterly Lottery Sales Indicator (WLA QLSI) was conceived in 2009 in the aftermath of the global financial crisis. In light of the economic uncertainty occasioned by the global financial crisis, the WLA determined that providing a regular snapshot of global and regional sales tendencies would be of considerable value to the world lottery community. The idea behind offering such a snapshot was not to enable fine distinctions in the analysis of lottery sales, such as could be assisted through, for example, the breakdown of lottery sales by product mix or category. Rather, the intent was to provide a very high-level overview of the state of play in the lottery industry, one which gave the industry professional a very general sense of how the industry was performing, both regionally in their organization’s jurisdiction and around the world. The WLA concluded that such a picture of the lottery industry could best be delivered by collecting and aggregating quarterly sales data from selected lottery organizations and reporting on the aggregated data in a timely manner, through the vehicle of the WLA QLSI.

At its launch in July 2010, the WLA QLSI reported on aggregated sales from 19 WLA member lotteries. Today, almost four years later, the WLA QLSI reports on aggregated quarterly sales figures from thirty-five lotteries, covering some 60% of world lottery sales by sales volume. Notwithstanding its growth in size, the aim of the WLA QLSI remains unchanged: to provide, through aggregating and reporting upon quarterly sales data from WLA member lottery organizations, a barometer for enabling lottery professionals to gauge the overall climate of lottery industry globally and by region.

The WLA will continue to track the progress of global lottery sales in future editions of the WLA QLSI. We wish to thank all WLA member lotteries participating in this initiative, and look forward to bringing you the first quarter 2014 results shortly.

Jean Jørgensen

WLA Executive Director.

Maltco Lotteries Launch 'Play Together'

MALTA (March 12, 2014) -- Maltco Lotteries has launched  “Play Together” where players can share the cost of the tickets amongst their friends, family and colleagues in Quaterno + and Super 5.

We tried to combine both the notion of having the players participate in our games in a relaxed social environment which we offer in most of our shops, together with the idea of having players playing their favourite games with their friends”, said a spokesperson for Maltco Lotteries.

When a player shares the cost of a ticket/s, it enables him/her to participate with higher value tickets and with more combinations. This increases the chances of winning by trying various combinations. Maltco’s spokesperson said that players will have the perfect opportunity to try this new concept with today’s Super 5 Jackpot which amounts to €1 million.

Participation is simple. A player has to become a “Play Together” Manager, team up with his/her friends and decide in which game the team would like to participate in. Tickets are to be purchased from all Maltco’s Points of Sale.

The company has also created a suggested “Play together” Planner which can be found on the company’s website:

Maltco Lotteries Limited

Maltco Lotteries Limited has an exclusive licence to operate all National Lottery games in Malta. The company is currently operating most of the games which previously fell under the responsibility of the Department of Public Lotto. The licence was issued by the Ministry of Finance (Article 26 (3) of the Lotteries and Other Games Act, 2001). Besides privatising the national lotteries, the Act also paved the way for the establishment of the Lotteries and Gaming Authority, which regulates the industry. MALTCO was set up in 2004 with a 73% shareholding by INTRALOT S.A. and the remaining 27% is owned by high profile Maltese businessmen . INTRALOT is a global leader in the design, development, operation, and support of integrated games and transaction processing systems. Pollard Banknote Announce Strong Fourth Quarter and Annual Financial Results

WINNIPEG, Canada (March 5, 2014) -- Pollard Banknote Limited (TSX: PBL) ("Pollard") today released its financial results for the three months and year ended December 31, 2013.

"We are very pleased with our financial results for both the 4th quarter and for all of 2013," commented Co-Chief Executive Officer John Pollard.  "The final quarter of the year continued the trend of strong sales volumes and revenue that we have experienced throughout the year."

"We recorded record sales volumes for 2013 and significant increases in our licensed games product line.  Our sales volumes were up approximately 8% and our average selling prices were consistent with 2012.   Sales of our licensed games products were up significantly and sales of our digital applications, while small in absolute value, began gaining traction in 2013."

"Our revenue increased by $22.5 million, or 13%, a tremendous accomplishment reflective of our strong team of employees and our unique approach to the industry. It also reflects a recognition in the marketplace of the ability of Pollard to assist lotteries in maximizing funds they can generate for their various good causes.  We gained a number of key new contracts in 2013 and continue to see success in this area in 2014.  More importantly we have seen a number of situations of increased share of work for Pollard with lotteries which have multiple suppliers.  All of these factors look to continue into 2014."

"Throughout 2013 we made a number of investments and upgrades to our business, particularly in adding key staff resources in the marketing and technical areas, in order to lay the foundation to grow our business.  The impact of these investments in the short term has been to limit the growth of margins relative to the growth in our revenue line.  However, we are confident that these investments will allow us to generate increasing margins and profits in the future."

"The instant ticket industry remains very strong.  Lotteries continue to grow their traditional paper based instant ticket products lines while at the same time quickly developing opportunities to provide their gaming products on the internet.  We are very excited about our new contract to provide the iLottery internet based product offering for the Michigan Lottery and are looking forward to expanding this product line."

"We continue to be very optimistic looking ahead to 2014, both for the opportunities developing within our industry, and our ability to take advantage of these opportunities to grow the business and profitability of Pollard."

Pollard is one of the leading providers of products and services to lottery and charitable gaming industries throughout the world.  Management believes Pollard is the largest provider of instant tickets based in Canada and the second largest producer of instant tickets in the world.

Alchemy3 and the Home Depot Raise the Roof!

Alchemy3 and The Home Depot Now Building Games for Lotteries

ALPHARETTA, Georgia (March 10, 2014) -- Alchemy3 is now the exclusive representative for The Home Depot® in the Lottery category.  “Lotteries have desired to partner with the home improvement category for years” said Jeffrey Schweig, President of Alchemy3.

The do-it-yourself (DIY) category has exploded over the past two decades, as evidenced by the many popular home improvement shows and dedicated networks. That, coupled with the American dream of home ownership, made partnering with The Home Depot, the world’s largest home improvement retailer, an easy decision” said Schweig. “With nearly 2,000 locations throughout the U.S., practically everyone has a Home Depot in their neighborhood.”

Prize options include awarding The Home Depot gift cards, room makeovers, and actual dream homes (Alchemy3 represents a variety of quality regional home builders).

The home makeover theme works well with event and publicity extensions. For example, a lottery’s sponsorship of a home or school makeover is a smart tactic for reinforcing the message of where lottery proceeds go” Schweig explained.

The Home Depot lottery games will begin to launch Spring, 2014.

About Alchemy3

Since its inception in 2007, Alchemy3 has become one of a select few companies in America that holds exclusive licenses to provide services to the North American Lottery Industry. A3 has worked with nearly all of North America’s lotteries and maintains strong contacts in every jurisdiction. The company not only holds the esteem of lotteries; but also with world class companies like Mars, EA SPORTS, Bass Pro Shops, The Home Depot, Honda and Norwegian Cruise Line who use Alchemy3 as their trusted brand stewards in the lottery world. Alchemy3 has worked hard to achieve their market position by putting brand owners and lottery clients’ needs first-- providing them with “boutique” type attention and executing programs with the highest level of integrity, honesty + thoughtfulness.

European Parliament Vote on Appropriate Control of All Gambling Activities Under the New Anti-Money Laundering Directive

The European Lotteries Association (EL) welcomes that the European Parliament text takes into account the specificity of the gambling sector

BRUSSELS, Belgium (March 11, 2014) --Today, the European Parliament plenary adopted its resolution on the European Commission proposal for a revision of the Anti-Money Laundering Directive. The plenary resolution follows the adoption in the respective committees at the end of February.

EL again stresses its support for the specification brought by the European Parliament of the specific forms of due diligence that should apply: for forms of gambling beyond casinos and online gambling, the controls should apply on the winnings above a threshold of 2 000 EUR. This specification rightly addresses the specific risk that can lie in the potential fraud with winnings and takes into consideration European customer social habits.

EL President Friedrich Stickler: “The control on winnings for certain forms of gambling is already in place in a number of Member States and has proven to be adequate. The step taken by the European Parliament today will allow Member States to apply the Directive to its full potential”.

EL calls on the Council and the European Commission to now follow the lead of the European Parliament and also provide for this efficient and adapted way of extending the Directive to all forms of gambling.

EL takes note of the fact that the European Parliament supports the possibility for Member States to exempt certain forms of gambling, following a risk assessment. However, EL considers that the provision whereby Member States need to seek the approval from the European Commission, goes beyond the necessary and sufficient guarantees of control of national implementations already provided in the Directive and undermines the subsidiarity principle as consistently referred to in the CJEU jurisprudence on gambling. EL therefore hopes this point will be clarified further in the dialogue between the European Parliament, the Council and the Commission on the Directive.

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (March 11, 2014) -- Riding the success of its newest games, the Tennessee Education Lottery today announced that the first week of March produced the highest sales of instant-ticket games since the Lottery’s launch week in January 2004.

Instant ticket sales for the week ending March 8 hit $31,123,289, the highest in over 10 years. The record for sales of instant tickets is $34,614,300, set after the Lottery’s first week of inception. When combined with sales of all games, this past week came in as the fifth highest grossing week since inception.

The Tennessee Lottery launched four new instant games on March 4, including Mega Millionaire Jumbo Bucks, which offers the chance to win up to $2 million; Platinum Doubler, with top prizes of $100,000; I Heart Cash, a fun visually innovative game with the chance to win up to $20,000; and Double 8s, a $1 game offering the chance to win up to $1,000.

Throughout the year we work hard to develop an array of entertaining instant games,” said Rebecca Hargrove, President and CEO of the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation. “Last week we expanded the popular Jumbo Bucks franchise and added innovative graphics and prize structures to other games, all of which were clearly a great hit with our players. In the end, of course, such results mean more proceeds to fund the education programs supported by the Lottery.”

The Lottery recently celebrated its 10th anniversary of operations, marking the milestone with the announcement of a record-setting second quarter, bringing the total raised for education programs to more than $2.91 billion. These funds have been used to award more than 800,000 scholarships and grants to Tennessee students, to whom the Lottery paid tribute with a recent series of TV spots featuring HOPE Scholars.

About the Tennessee Education Lottery

Net proceeds from sales of Lottery tickets, currently averaging over $6.3 million per week, fund specific education programs, including college scholarships and after-school programs.

Since the Lottery began selling tickets on Jan. 20, 2004, it has raised more than $2.91 billion for these programs. In addition to the educational beneficiaries, players have won over $6.8 billion in prizes and Lottery retailer partners have earned over $733 million in retailer commissions.

Illinois Lottery Unveil New ‘MS Project’ Instant Game

Lottery has raised $6.5 million for Multiple Sclerosis research since 2008

SPRINGFIELD, Illinois (March 6, 2014) – As part of its legislative mandate to fund good causes, the Illinois Lottery today announced the launch of its latest instant game whose proceeds fund research in Illinois as to the cause, prevention, and future cure of multiple sclerosis (MS) – an often devastating disease. MS Project, the seventh edition of the “special cause” Lottery instant game that funds MS research, could generate over $1 million this year to support research programs. Since 2008, the Lottery, working closely with the National MS Society, has raised more than $6.5 million from the sale of MS instant games.

In announcing the new MS Project game during National MS Awareness Week, Illinois Lottery Director Michael Jones was joined today at the Capitol building in Springfield by John Blazek, President of the National MS Society Greater Illinois Chapter; Dr. LaMar Hasbrouck, Director of the Illinois Department of Public Health; and grant recipient Dr. Rob Motl, Director of the Exercise Neuroscience Research Laboratory at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign.

If you buy an MS Project instant ticket, whether you win $20,000 instantly or not, you’re helping create substantial funding for programs researching MS,” said Illinois Lottery Director Michael Jones. “This devastating disease is especially prevalent among young women, and all of us are affected by it through people we know who suffer from it. Now all of us have the opportunity to do something about it by buying MS Project tickets--and encouraging others to do the same.”

The MS Project instant game, if it sells out, will provide over $1 million for the Illinois Multiple Sclerosis Research Fund. Proceeds will be used to help physicians better understand the disease, and to enable researchers to continue their efforts to discover a cure. Each MS Project ticket costs $2 and includes a variety of cash instant prizes that range from $2 to $20,000 (four top prizes are available).

Multiple sclerosis, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system, interrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and the body. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted.

Although MS is not considered a fatal disease because the majority of people with MS have a normal life-span, they may struggle to live as productively as they desire and often face increasing limitations,” said Illinois Department of Public Health Director Dr. LaMar Hasbrouck.  “Funding MS research through the lottery ticket can help those with MS live healthier and happier lives.”

The partnership with the Illinois Lottery and the funds generated through the scratch-off ticket are helping to propel new and innovative research throughout the state,” said John Blazek, President of the MS Society’s Greater Illinois Chapter. “This is another important step in our ongoing efforts to create a world free of MS.”

The Illinois Department of Public Health will continue to provide MS Project proceeds to the National MS Society, which, in turn, awards grants to organizations conducting MS research in Illinois. All grants funded by MS Project revenue have been, and will continue to be, reviewed and approved by the National MS Society’s Research Programs Advisory Committee, a panel that includes 75 leading scientists, physicians and other professionals from virtually every field related to MS.

The Illinois Lottery funds gave us the huge boost we needed to expand one our most significant studies – the development of a comprehensive approach for addressing walking related problems in MS, which is among the biggest challenges that people living with the disease encounter on a daily basis,” said Dr. Rob Motl, a faculty member in the Department of Kinesiology and Community Health at the University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign, and Director of the Exercise Neuroscience Research Laboratory. Four of his University of Illinois colleagues received pilot grants from the Illinois Lottery in 2013.

MS Project is available at more than 8,200 Illinois Lottery retailer locations across the state. If you don’t see the game displayed please ask for it. For more information regarding MS Project, please visit: or for more information regarding multiple sclerosis, visit: or
